I used to think that when the Trump administration used the term "DEI" it was just their stand-in for the N-word.

Anymore, having observed how maniacal they are about rooting out so much as any mention of "DEI" from civic life, I think it's their stand-in for "Wir müssen die Juden ausrotten".

Are there he-men out there asking themselves, "Why am I tricked out in camo gear, toting a semi-automatic rifle and wearing a balaclava like a terrorist, just to pick up a terrified gardener attending a court hearing on his lawful naturalization?"

I can dream.

One wonders if the reason the American right-wing is so keen to muster scary, military-level responses to Hispanic children, Afghani refugees and Muslim grandmothers is that those are the only "manly" victories they can actually manage.

Substitute "Blue States" for California.

Does it exaggerate the situation? A bit. But the fact of the matter is that it only gets worse if you move your perspective down to the county-by-county level. Blue counties account for something like 70% of the U.S. economy.

It's profoundly sad for me to watch a significant portion of my country fall into ignorance and stupidity. This is just one example, and it's been brewing for a while, but now the morons have the wheel of America's scientific enterprise to use to invent a justification for their fact-free beliefs.

Two stories of encounters with AI, from a scientific researcher:

2. A few months ago, I was putting together a grant proposal. A small part of this proposal involved a set of kinases - ATM & ATR - that I wanted to test for their potential roles in a mechanism I wanted to investigate.

A few facts about recent Trump history:
--If we didn't want him to get in on the Israel/Iran conflict, then we should never have called him TACO. At least, we should have minimized the TACO stuff and fluffed him as a steadfast bully.

Every country in the world has seen what happened in Ukraine, and now in Iran, not to mention North Korea, and is taking the same lesson: if you have the capability to make a nuclear weapon, you should do it, and quickly.
