On 7/5, the whole league will only be available on Peacock (no local broadcasts that day). So I understand them stretching that schedule for the new TV partner.

But that Labor Day Sunday one is weird for exactly that reason. Teams basically never have to travel and only get 19 hours between starts.

My wife’s first Valentine’s Day gift to me (we had been on four dates). It’ll be 10 years old in three months.

We’re probably all doing this same dance about Werenski next year at this time. He’s a UFA the year after Hughes.

His game 3 isn’t talked about enough. 1.000/1.000/3.000 in 9 plate appearances is bonkers.

And your first point is crucial. They have to find a way to get an ELITE guy, and with Eichel, McDavid etc signing extensions, that’s looking less and less likely. Here’s a way to get a guy for two playoff runs (and maybe lots more!). Do it.

This is where I’m at. Hutson + Leonard is too much, but I can see my way to just about anything below that. The 8 year extension vs 6 year contract in NJ is non-trivial, and the Caps have been very good at keeping guys they want to keep. So I’m less worried that it’s a 1.5 yr rental.

Jim “Two Silhouettes on” Deshaies being the other one.

And similarly, because we don’t get TV timeouts during PP’s, the chance of getting a penalty from 0 - 2:00 before the timeout is lower.

My wife splurged for their Air Fryer/Broiler/Toaster/Counter-Top Oven thing and it’s actually been pretty awesome.

That’s to say… I would trade what it took to get him, and bet on their locker room culture convincing him to stay.

Who is the last guy to leave as a UFA that they made a serious effort at keeping?
December 10, 2025 at 3:11 AM
I don’t think the Caps would be allowed to officially sign him to one until July next year. (That doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be discussions, but I don’t think it could be part of trade)

Who in the org wouldn’t you deal for Hughes? For me, Lil Pro is the only one, and that’s only because his brother is on the big club. Everyone else would be on the table for me.

They also just spent $7M less on Diaz than they did on Conforto+Yates last year. Add in the $7M they’re not paying Kershaw, and they’ve got $14M of room for an OF (Kwan? Duran?) without spending more money than they did in ‘25.
December 9, 2025 at 6:24 PM
It’s really after 2027. Glasnow’s not opting into 1 year for $21.6M as a 34 year old, so it’s $80M coming off the 2027 payroll between Freddie, Glasnow and Téoscar.

Sorry. Haha.

I feel like I’ve said “Really? Thirty years ago? No, that can’t be right” a lot recently.

“What is Love” is now as old as Elvis’ “It’s Now or Never” was when “What is Love” was released.

Conversely, if you’re the 14th guy and are only playing because two actually good F’s are out, you can’t take that penalty.
