after the 2024 election, the media, gop pols, and businesses really believed there was a substantial shift to cultural conservatism in the USA. the Charlie Kirk killing is a huge piece of evidence against that. It’s causing a lot of cognitive dissonance in those circles.
Like Trump said he would do this in the 2024 campaign and people shrugged (including the press).
I get that telling voters they aren’t smart is a bad move but the political press needs to stop pretending voters are not dumb. They really didn’t think through Trump 2.0
This is I think worth noting. Last week Politico, Axios, & co were quite gleefully saying that Democrats were going to get blame for the shutdown, now theyre sounding the alarm for Republicans. This shutdown hasnt turned out the way they thought it would for their GOP allies.
