Partial scam. Food is never good.
schnorkles.bsky.social
Also the overhaul of drug sales is meaningless and doesn't target any of the actual things that make drugs expensive

My best guess is its pretty simple: benefits cost more to provide to sick people, benefits cost more to provide to rural people. You want to make all the math pencil out in the great society programs? Remove the sick populations and move everyone into cities and micropols.
schnorkles.bsky.social
Relatedly, and importantly, this administration also appears laser focused on destroying rural areas. I can't think its anything but intentional at this point. (Even if Trump maybe wouldn't want to do it.)
schnorkles.bsky.social
Basically: This administration wants to kill people. One of its core goals appears to be to lower the population.
schnorkles.bsky.social
We see it with how they view medicine, vaccines, etc. We see it with how they stopped providing food to the world's most vulnerable populations. We see it in pushes to embrace policies that dramatically increase infant mortality and the mortality of the mother.
schnorkles.bsky.social
I think it has to be understood at this point that between the internal and external policies of the current administration, there is a formal push for weak, poor, vulnerable populations to be, for lack of a better word, systematically removed.

*groans loudly in computational drug development*

China + USAID was one of the major load bearing pillars of American ag. You can't remove it and expect the agricultural economy to survive in its current state.

I have been texting this to my constituents every day for weeks as they tell me they're going to lose the farm because China and USAID were their two biggest customers
schnorkles.bsky.social
In careful, same party speak, this is basically "the administration better have a plan."
schnorkles.bsky.social
Yeah, ag here is a mess. Harvest was a trainwreck and no one had enough people.
schnorkles.bsky.social
Listen bub, I'm dumb as hell and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
schnorkles.bsky.social
Oh so it's bad, bad.

Rep. Stutzman on a bailout for farmers: "People are gonna struggle to make it through, but I think President Trump has a plan. He understands that the tariff policies have created some volatility for agriculture."

I AM GOING TO GET IN THAT CARTOON PLANE'S MENTIONS, AND I'M GOING TO TELL HIM HOW STUPID HE IS
schnorkles.bsky.social
I need a warning label with all posts that says "Will probably not pay any attention to responses to this post, the plane just sort of moves on and does stream of consciousness."

So many people wasting all this effort yelling at me.
schnorkles.bsky.social
A lot of these positions are in rural areas as well. Hard to have a rural hospital if you can't have doctors

Local issues dominate mayorals, often best to not read much into them (as I posted with the last one), but a potential canary in the coalmine that Alaska is in play.

A dem would need to do very well in Fairbanks.

JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.
schnorkles.bsky.social
Yeah I'll believe it when I see it.

Johnson's caucus is still probably 70-75% in favor of the shutdown and absolutely no retreat, and I doubt that's changing anytime soon, but he's sounding more couched today.

One the mods was a neo-nazi in disguise or something, I can't remember all the details, he called it deep cover but it was pretty clear he was frequenting serious neo nazi discords and such.

He at one point enlisted goonstore admin to ban anyone who posted in a thread.

Reminder that Pat Fitzgerald got Scooter Libby and Blagojevich convicted. Dude is not playing around.
sharonk.bsky.social
oh they made pat mad

“This prosecution was brought by President Trump,” Comey’s attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, said, adding that they may file an “outrageous government conduct” motion.

Comey’s team also plans to challenge the appointment of the prosecutor in Virginia who brought the charges against him, Lindsey Halligan.

Fitzgerald, said at one point that “it’s the honor of my life” to represent the former FBI director in the case.

Mike Johnson: "Federal workers, it's my understanding that the law is that they would be paid. There is some other legal analysis floating around. I haven't yet had time to dig in and read that."
