Solid roundup of the prospects for continued Fed independence. I share Sahm's provisional optimism.

"There are no risk-free paths for the Fed. That’s true in any transition of members and leadership, but there are risks of a fundamental redefinition of the Fed. It’s one thing to downplay data; it’s another to become a political arm of the President."

Fed today, Fed tomorrow
Fed Chair Powell has warned that there are “no risk-free paths now.” He’s referring to the challenging situation for the Fed with the risk of inflation persistently above target and the risk of employ...

New argument against AI regulation just dropped. Checkmate, atheists.

For about a year now, Thiel has been publicly laying out his understanding of biblical prophecies and the potential for the rapid advance of technology to bring about an apocalyptic future.

In a lecture Monday, he encouraged an audience to continue working toward scientific progress, whether in AI or other forms of technology. Fearing or regulating it, or opposing technological progress, would hasten the coming of the Antichrist, Thiel said, according to people who attended.

Trump has ongoing #tradewar with Switzerland of all places: current #tariffs on Swiss goods are 39%.

Swiss Army knife manufacturer scratches head. They employ over 1100 workers making a high quality product. But... I can't see point of training US workers to do this. It's not exactly high tech.
NYT: Victorinox is one of Switzerland’s most visible employers, with 1,100 workers crafting high-quality knives, overseeing new designs and running calculations on how to deal with the tariffs. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/21/business/swiss-army-knife-trump-tariffs.html

A totalitarian movement must never achieve its goals, as that would eliminate the need for the movement itself. Even in victory, new enemies must be created in order to justify further cruelty and domination.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

Yes, this is really it *for hot takes on microblog platforms*. Except there never was a golden or even silver age for that.

Microblogs are decent for a comment and a link. And admittedly, multiple post twitter essays are a thing.

But single X-posts != punditry.

I dunno man, if you don't know the law and the court system, you are eliminating a very large method of opposition. The NPR article was helpful and it didn't mince words about what is happening.

I mean ICE agents mask themselves for a reason - to evade the law even if recorded on a cell phone.

From Bloomberg. Text included for completeness; I'm a little dubious.
Trump's approval declining among supporters, especially younger supporters.

Every time your electricity bill goes up for the next 10 years, it can be traced back to this Administration’s actions.

They are making solar and wind power illegal to build in the United States. They are artificially restricting supply while demand is going up.

A very basic test of Trump's justification for sending armed officials into DC (to reduce crime) is whether its residents feel safer or not.
They do not. They are not going to public spaces. They are not going to restaurants. They are more afraid of the occupiers than risks from crime.
