This deal funds SNAP through the end of next year, right? So starving children would be off the table in a February shutdown fight. Maybe that makes a difference or maybe not.

There's going to be a healthcare vote in December. If the GOP refuses compromise, the Dems have another pressure point in January. That's not nothing.

It may not be enough though. I honestly don't know whether the Dems will get another bite of the apple.

Is there a movie covering Orban in Hungary, Erdogan in Turkey, Nicaragua post-Somoza , etc.? Because what we are dealing with here is a possible slide into bog-standard middle income country authoritarianism.
