As this thread spells out, it seems utterly incomprehensible that Tice, Candy, Oakeshott etc lavish praise on the Gulf states when to an outside observer, it’s everything they hate. Until you understand that all these people see is 1) no tax and 2) a subservient class of browns. Now it makes sense.

The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers

Immune system being a buzzword is really frustrating when you've got an autoimmune condition. It makes finding stuff out really difficult because every supplement seller under the sun talks about how X thing they sell "strengthens the immune system"

Do I even want a stronger immune system? 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Worth me clarifying, I’m talking about people moving from affluent countries and backgrounds. Millions of people from the global south search of a better life and for money to support families back home, and indeed are often the ones on the receiving end of the human rights abuses

You should check out Brad Schoenfeld. He took both his MSc and PhD studying mostly online. The PhD took less than 3 years while he was also working full time.

She was amazing, and had a tragic life. She wrote it soon after her half sister had taken her own life. Shelley lost first child and was nursing her second when writing Frankenstein, who was also dead by its publication. I agree, so much that’s still relevant in that one book.

I know what you mean, the person (their image/personality) that the message is coming from does matter, perhaps unfortunately. I’d say Layne Norton reaches the same kind of people and, as far as I’m aware, isn’t guilty of the same issues.

People were aghast, and accused scientists of playing god by reanimating the dead, hence the book’s subtitle of ‘the modern Prometheus’, as Dr Frankenstein stole fire from the gods. The 1931 film had a profound effect on a young Earl Bakken, who would go on to found Medtronic & invent the pacemaker

The most celebrated previous adaptation (apart from Young Frankenstein, a truly goated movie!), the 1931 film with Boris Karloff, was instrumental in cardiology’s evolution

Shelley herself was inspired by the pioneering physiological work of Galvani, making frogs’ legs twitch with electricity

I realised that it’s probably my lack of knowledge in the fields I think he’s authoritative that is making me think he knows what he’s talking about. I’m not saying he’s never communicated good info, but there is enough to tell me he has huge shortcomings in his scientific abilities, and blindspots

Brandon the youtube comment I left on the original video was similar – I said 80% of what Mike says seems fine to me, but I’d noted a lot of bad info in clips etc. I only learnt of the really awful stuff in the last 2 days, which has led me to reassess my overall opinion. Not a trustworthy source.
