Housewife (she/her) and unpublished amateur writer. Grew up a Southern Baptist in GA, currently an Episcopalian in MA after several stops along the way.
We were being nice and looking up where our reassigned seats were like AN HOUR before the previous flight dropped the plane off for ours.

So then the same 'where can we put you' scramble as if we'd arrived Unassigned Seating. BECAUSE ALSO-ASTHMA SPOUSE HAS THE FREQ FLYER CREDIT CARD FOR FREE BAGS.

We have had gate staff think we could be surprise "upgraded" to an exit row BECAUSE of me dragging my then-undiagnosed asthmatic self around on my own two feet. Last time, I was accused of saying the plane was unfit to fly!

I'm worse, you bet I'm considering it next time. Or/plus FAA on speed-dial.

Obligatory question: how much did you weight the turkey assaults?

Because they aren't megafauna but they also aren't 100% benign.

Royally.

Great idea to find the class outcast imposter syndrome victim while she's having a meltdown at an impossible in-class task (gerrymandering map) and pile more on by making her think you just took away something loadbearing while treating her like she's stupid for not knowing random trivia.

A generation earlier? I'd have lost that scholarship.

I was on emotional edge when he arrived.

But no, being an educator can't possibly involve having power over lives. At least someone who recognizes they should use it responsibly isn't going to be a The State Consented For Youuuuu wrecking ball.

And you can REALLY screw them over in a hurry if you want to.

Our principal thought making me think he disqualified me for a scholarship I *needed* by not holding the info until the announcement via mocking me in front of my class about it day-of was a good way to teach a smart girl her place.

The teacher of my high school Government class would be horrified and my AP US History teacher is probably rolling in her grave, but I have to agree that the argument is well worth reading.

I finally got my eyes checked after way too long, and they were awesome about it. And now I can order prescription migraine tint glasses.

Also it's the first time I've been to that part of metro Boston since probably 2019 and with fresh snow on the ground. Longest walk with Spouse since Mar 2020!

I need to relearn. Round 1 was in church preschool *mumble* years ago, because I had multiple Korean classmates and one of the moms gave the intro lessons one day to anyone interested (and I was interested), and basically nothing since.

Especially when part of the problem IS some adults acting like there's no difference between 'entering k5' and 'making first lifelong binding decisions'.

I got 'we decide you need to hug relatives who say I Love You' WELL PAST the age where I had a serious boyfriend. And that DID cause issues.

I deeply miss the files I once had of a modernized version someone did and posted to mp3 dot com that had Clair De La Lune for Earth and an original piece for Nibiru that rocked.

Think I found the composer tonight. Sells orchestral sheet music for Nibiru and the sample is defanged classical.
December 13, 2025 at 5:14 AM
And that's re the actual person.

You just *know* the AI version is going to be some sort of 'we gather info from relatives with the fondest memories' and/or frankenstein model spliced with therapy-speak for speedrunning grief.

I suspect my paternal grandmother would want the opposite of the model.

Mine got told very loudly after she passed that if she wants to come around here she'd better lead with one hell of an apology (that part of the family is the one with the history of producing people who have seen the dead in dreams, so this was An Actual Concern).

Not in my head, not on my phone.

Other than maybe that nurse in L&D.

(Anybody here able to top 'sub 10 minutes and hair still damp' for an earliest adult telling you that you WEREN'T ALLOWED to have reached a Curiosity About The World milestone? Because apparently in 1980s GA there were RULES about permissible age at eye-opening.)

He's what everyone growing up who thought that I was stuck up Better Than You ego-problem assumed I was based on test scores I didn't care about beyond Will The Adults Reject Me If I Don't.

Like, good lord, HE'S the one who needed the Ego Development Prevention Interventions that I kept getting.

May not even be countering 'the imagery'.

I helped take care of a relative with Alzheimer's and as time went on, the cultural-training behavior barriers went down to no awareness of observation. Speaking as the target of that? I've been getting bad vibes re Ivanka and that pattern for a while now.

The kind of thing that could only arise after the downfall of the oral 'we are bored, tell a story about a king or we're shoving the strongest reader in the building next to the fire and making him read to us' folk education tradition.

People who were 100% illiterate followed Dickens, damnit.

We used to joke I was minoring in Shakespeare bc of the number of classes covering him I took over the requirements for the English major.

I expect they'd find a reference to a noble OR Marlowe, then miss the attached encoded profanity and/or physically improbable act the Church disapproved of.

I am surprised, but given the ongoing battle I'm having re dentistry is a combo of 'you're a woman, beauty must overshadow all other considerations incl malnutrition' AND 'you can totally willpower through ADHD-pattern dental hygiene problems if we traumatize you and raise the stakes'? Not really.

Avarice?

Presuming this is a 'pairing sins and appropriate ingestible punishments' menu, given you're asking about licorice the day after 'Why Are We Reading About John The Baptist Before Christmas' Sunday in the RCL?

Kobo has the box set of the first 3 for $1.99 where I am as of when I checked to see if the sale was off yet 3 minutes ago.

I don't think they have a gif for 'Christian who is not bothering with decorations and longing for that quiet Long Winter's Nap living across the hall from new neighbors who are DEFINITELY their family's designated Hannukah party hosts'.

I saw kids mocked for better in my elementary school during the Presidential Fitness Test.

There's what flies without comment as an I Can't But I'm Trying Because The State Says You Can Make Me attempt, and then there's the person who says Look At Me I Am So Good At This and does just as badly.
December 8, 2025 at 11:25 PM
I am less surprised knowing what my childhood SBC church expected people to do for Quiet Time.

Bible by yourself. No other books, just Bible.

Doing a group Bible study? Sunday School class has homework? Found an actual theology book? That's *extra* on top of the expected time a day of Just Bible.
