What to say to the Trump supporter in this article who says, he's supposed to cut waste, not me; who believes if Trump only knew what was happening to people, he would not be doing this? After Federal Cuts, Food Banks Scrounge and Scrimp www.nytimes.com/2025/04/28/u...
After Trump Aid Cuts, Food Banks Scrounge and Scrimp
In one of the country’s poorest areas, the quantity and quality of government deliveries have dropped, forcing one charity to make do with thin soup and dried cranberries.

Yes, there is determined, organized resistance to the current threat. This is just one. Thx for this coverage, @washingtonpost.com.
As Trump pursues his policies, Democratic states block his path
Democratic states have worked for months to craft legal opposition to President Trump’s agenda. Now they’re putting it into practice.

Today's WaPo headlines that the Trump team is "unmoved" as the effects of cuts begin to be felt domestically & worldwide. Honestly, I get it; why can't they? The effects are the plan, not an accidental byproduct. Don't look for them to have feelings beyond those of triumph, success, vindication.

Credit where credit is due: thanks, @nytimes.com, for not rolling over.https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/08/opinion/trump-musk-public-attention.html?smid=nytcore-android-share

Y'know the classic anxiety dreams? You forgot to take a class, take a test, get dressed? Just woke up from a new one: I was running the Democratic convention. & no, I wasn't doing a better job. Now I'll never get back to sleep. At least Hillary Clinton texted me back. What a time we're in.

This morning's "But does he really mean it" heading in @nytimes.com seems quaint--or maybe, falsely naive. He means it if he can get away with it. I think we all know that by now. Who is served by pretending?

Wait--& here I thought declining test scores were singlehandedly the fault of one woman, Lucy Calkins. This article makes a lot more sense. wapo.st/3PWN2Tg
Students aren’t recovering from covid. Test scores are getting worse.
Takeaways from new federal data on student math and reading achievement detail the long and damaging road back from the pandemic.

Yes, I'm going to say thanks to @nytimes.com today. After reading about the executive orders the incoming POTUS is planning to sign, I honestly needed to turn my attention to "How Can I get Out of My Leggings Rut." One of these problems is within my power to solve.

Just starting think about how to handle today & came to crowdsource ideas. Thanks, @sissyblade.bsky.social & @effinbirds.com.
I ain't watching that dumb shit today...

Today's @washingtonpost.com headline that Trump has already "conquered" DC before even taking office is a sickening example of premature capitulation. It's like "fawning" in an abusive relationship. Way to bring the darkness they said democracy dies in.

Wish I could say I finished strong, but I staggered to the end of the day & eked out 500 words. But--I have a 4500 word document I didn't have before--an essay I can, yes, hammer into shape. #mini1000
January 8, 2025 at 3:41 AM
Cut as much as wrote today, but still at 3950 words over the 4 days. Today's challenge: not research exactly, but, condensing my thoughts about Deaths of Despair so they don't overpower the essay. Yikes. So many thoughts. #mini1000
January 6, 2025 at 9:40 PM
This piece is up to 3375 words now, so on pace w/#mini1000. I call it a "speculative" essay, but really, isn't that what an essay is? Now looking at & thinking about 3 deaths--& feeling pretty good about it!
January 5, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Another 1000 words today--well, 940. It's going to be an essay, not just about my friend who took her life, but about despair. Writing was easy today; totally flowed. Not like wrestling with my novel! Maybe I just really wanted to write about despair! Hope everyone had a good day with #mini1000.
January 4, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Just reporting in to #mini1000. 1272 words.I was supposed to be working on my novel; instead, I wrote about a friend who recently took her life. It might grow into an essay. Is that ok? Do I lack focus & discipline? These words just wrote themselves down & the novel's been a struggle. Why, tho?

Just got this month's issue of Poets&Writers. Fixated r/n on the editorial decision to publish/endorse a letter w/the phrase, "many Zionists attacking people of conscience right now," as if you can't be both a Zionist--someone who thinks Israel should exist--and a person of conscience. Wrong.
