I think it's important to note this is Hollywood, not comics. Jack Kirby was a jewish soldier who literally fought Nazis and made a point to show them as racist, anti-intellectual, and authoritarian (see also characters like the Hatemonger). Later characters like Darkseid also depict its mentality.

I was one issue after you! Same problems, had to beg my ma and sister to drive me around to Fast Fares. The one where <spoiler> gives a beating to <spoiler> while <spoiler> watches. I feel like JRJr run is where it really lost its mojo. It got really gloomy and hopeless...
