I see Frame-Pritchard Alley is heating up again!

Very important point here! A raw ensemble mean can sometimes be very misleading!
burgwx.bsky.social
IMPORTANT NOTE 🚨

When looking at ensemble means, beware of the "survivors bias". For example, the GEFS *mean* misses the coast... but most GEFS members make landfall!

This has to do with the storm timing. Consider how some members move the storm faster than others... (cont.)

I mean, as long as you are internally decent, those external decencies can take a hike ;)

I call for a complete shutdown of the Atlantic thermohaline circulation until we can find out what the hell is going on!

I am so excited to announce that one of the radar meteorology courses that I developed with @comet-meted.bsky.social is now available! "Dual-Polarization Fundamentals" picks up where "Weather Radar Fundamentals" left off! learn.meted.ucar.edu#/online-cour... (Register on learn.meted.ucar.edu first.)
Screenshot of the lesson, showing a radar dish overlaid with text:
"Online Course
Dual-Polarization Fundamentals
1h 30m - 2h
Description
Once an experimental type of weather radar, dual-polarized (“dual-pol”) weather radar is now deployed across the United States and many parts of the world. This lesson will introduce the basic principles of dual-pol weather radar. By the end of this lesson, learners will understand physical meanings of several commonly used polarimetric radar variables, including differential reflectivity, correlation coefficient, differential phase, specific differential phase, and linear depolarization ratio. Examples will be presented demonstrating the distinctive polarimetric signatures of different scatterer types, both meteorological and non-meteorological. Note: This lesson has as a prerequisite the prior lesson, Weather Radar Fundamentals. It is strongly recommended that beginning learners complete that lesson before starting this one."

So basically what @ianlivingston.bsky.social just said in OP, lol

Maybe this is just generational snobbery on my part but I’ve felt for a while that we Xennials seem to fit right in a sweet spot where we are savvy enough to engage with rapidly changing online landscape but not so embedded in it from a young age that we overly struggle to see it from the outside.

The online ghouls who are celebrating and/or justifying the shooting of Charlie Kirk have no idea how much damage they are doing…

I can’t go there. Because at the end of the day, things do matter. People matter.

Coming to a realization that you can’t carry all the world’s burdens on your own shoulders, though, that’s another matter.

No shade or judgment intended.

Wait wait wait… the President’s “laws”? Is that really what the complaint was?

THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT MAKE LAWS!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

I understand this perspective. And I don’t think they are always bad, partly for the reason you bring up. If that sentence is not just regurgitating the caption but rather helps with the flow of the text, then go for it. What bugs me is the use of this structure as dry “filler” that doesn’t add much

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Let it all out and damn the torpedoes, I say.

And yes, I have often been guilty of this as well (even recently)! It can be a difficult temptation to resist!
meteodan.bsky.social
Apropos of nothing, I offer an unsolicited academic writing tip. Sentences that begin with some form of "Fig. X shows so-and-so..." are usually unnecessary, as they often just regurgitate what should be in the figure caption. Instead, *interpret* the figures in the text with appropriate references.

This made me smile :)

It’s doing like 12 hours worth of fountaining followed by a pause of about a week. Assuming the same pattern continues it shouldn’t be too much trouble to time things well. No telling how long it will repeat though!

Ep 32 of ongoing #Kilauea eruption is in full fountaining mode, and as of the time of this post, there is an amazing, quasi-steady intense "lavanado" ongoing in the shear zone next to the angled lava fountain. Ready-made source of horizontal shear and stretching!

I expected it to be higher, TBH.

I could see myself doing so, if it were produced in the style of an engaging audiobook. But then I guess it would just be an audiobook…

I mean... not really... but it's so much fun this way ;)

And yes, "lavanado" or "volcanado" is a very apt term :)
