Burning myself on the electrified-pantograph of politics.
There are still lots of terrible corrupt Dems, but Pritzker's election and, as importantly, Madigan's resignation, finally let the state legislature function properly for the first time since the 70s. Hundreds of bills/session get passed now - tons of good stuff.. mixed with the self-dealing.

A friend in HS had one. They and friends were playing with it somewhat responsibly in the backyard, shot it at the house, and absolutely shattered a sliding glass door. Twas never seen again.

Look, I'm willing to stipulate that I just made everything up and knowingly lied to you. But have you considered what if even just 10% of what I said turns out to be true?

Oof, don't know if Sopranos is about the capacity for individual growth. But personally for MM, I find Pete Campbell's redemption arc to be one of the best in any show. More than any show, you really feel the characters age through the series (Stranger Things aside), and how it changes them.

I canvassed in Iowa and saw him speak on MLK day. Then did one canvass in Chicago before his campaign instructed everyone to suspend going door to door because of covid. Truly everything falling apart in March.. it's tough that this was part of it.

That was such an inspired plotline. Harry coming through as a friend the only way he knows how, lying and being an absolute scumbag to a woman.

Do I know why Scarlett needed a paycheck from Ritz Crackers? Or Clooney lent his cred to GrubHub? No, but telling that I think Matthew Broderick was the biggest celebrity in an AI commercial as opposed to Matt Damon, Larry David, and the rest doing crypto a few years ago. Industry is cooked.

To be fair there have been 0 touchdowns. Great halftime though.

It was totally insane even by the standards of promoting something totally insane.

Man, I've been thinking how I, as someone who used to point to Bush era policies putting us on the road to facism, including the creation of DHS and ICE, has been shocked and surprised at how quickly this has all devolved under Trump 2. I can't imagine being jaded by all this.

My point is kind of that anyone could take bribes and be a piece of shit, but your Tears of Lincoln is inspired beyond what our greatest gerrymanderer could think of.
February 5, 2026 at 7:19 PM
This may be the original, but the meme format may be older. The point is to compare the disparate accomplishments of similar people. Madigan was known for his cutthroat gerrymandering as Speaker, but is otherwise mostly known for being a corrupt asshole.

Yeah another travesty of the ACA is that it ended up being the only signature piece of legislation passed. A different future for sure if they had passed card check too, which he ran on and pledged to pass.

I have a college acquaintance (self-identified moderate Republican) that is obsessed with this 2012 historical contingency. Hates Trump but really feels Dems demonization of Romney "pushed" the Rs into Trump's arms. It's interesting seeing his opinions on other things as a barometer of stupidity.

And honestly, the issue isn't that I can't quiet myself and listen politely. It's when I've been talking a minute straight to these people and they're just silently staring at me. I've given them a dozen opportunities to interrupt and take-over, but they're waiting for silence. Very off-putting!
