Not sure how it's possible to be disappointed by this book.

Burn After Reading is dreadful except that every scene involving JK Simmons is a delight.

Thanks. I posted and then noticed my timeline is filled with news of disasters, natural and otherwise. Social media is for venting and I'm ok with having used it for that, but a little perspective is a good thing, too.

He's gone, and even if he comes back I never looked up to see what he looked like. But if I had it to do all over again, he'd get much more of an earful than just "suck it."

Imagine this happening to a grown man. You can't. It wouldn't. I really should have told him off; I just wasn't prepared, because I'M 52 YEARS OLD. I really thought I was done being ordered by strangers to smile. My mistake.

I have resting get-the-fuck-away-from-me face. I am wearing leggings, a loose t-shirt and no makeup. Nothing about me says "please tell me what facial expression you would like me to wear." But because I am female and dared to venture out in public, he felt entitled.

I cannot emphasize enough that this would not be ok for him to say to anyone of any gender or age, but that I am a grown-ass, AARP-eligible human. He has no idea how bad my life is or is not. What made him think it was acceptable to approach me at all, let alone tell me how to arrange my face?

I'm annoyed with myself that I didn't tell him off, but honestly I was so taken aback that the best I could do was act like he didn't exist. Which in my world, up until a few minutes ago, he didn't.

I'm not saying it's bad, just saying it exists. But it does not exist in the greater NYC area.

This was before the Preds existed, and back when the Titans were the Tennessee Oilers. The other massive sports down there at the time were Lady Vols basketball and NASCAR.

Turns out if you're from certain parts of the country, you don't have to attend the school to be maniacally invested in the football team. I lived in Tennessee for a year, and folks were *rabid* Vols fans despite having no direct connection to the school, which was an 8-hour drive away.

Also, whoever wrote this obit does not understand the form. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead needed to be in the first paragraph, if not the first sentence.

On the flip side, Tom Stoppard was still alive? Good for him!

If I sounded flippant just now, believe me it was not intended that way. Fuck these people forever.

My point was more that this is not universal knowledge among Jews, or even among Jews with extensive understanding of/experience with antisemitism.

I didn't know it either, and I grew up around an entire community of Holocaust refugees, including my German Jewish grandparents.🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm just wondering what other shoe awaits us.
