Admittedly we're talking about a sample size of 2 but if Warde makes this pick he's likely to zag to someone who isn't so tied to UM's past.

Absolutely. I don't listen to Josh Pate but someone pointed out he claimed to know about the Brian Kelly firing coming but it was after it was announced and he had apparently said something along the lines that he thought Kelly was safe only a bit earlier. Just fake authority.

Not that any of it ultimately matters but it just feels like weird clout chasing.

Because I'm comfortable saying some random ESPN radio host isn't super connected with the extra-curricular activities of Sherrone Moore.

I remain of the belief that a lot of people claiming it was an "open secret" are post-hoc believing generic message board rumors and wanting to feel in the know, or are accelerating the timeline from "an investigation was started in October" to "I knew long ago".
December 12, 2025 at 2:53 PM
The point you made on the podcast that basically every program in America has some version of "I hear coach X is having an affair" rumor is applicable here. I'm sure there were rumors but the post-hoc certainty some have that they knew they were true is the part people bump up against.

I stopped reading the Bacon books because they were basically just insider notebook dumps with information that would have been useful way earlier mixed with grudge settling. Again, I get you can't run on rumor but the access economy driving a lot of sports journalism now is tiring.
December 12, 2025 at 1:26 PM
I recognize you can't run on just rumors but I guess I'm just tired of this trend (which happens in the political arena all the time) where useful information is sat on for a long time so you have content for a book or a chance at more clout online.
December 12, 2025 at 1:21 PM
Oh, that I totally get. But there have definitely been certain reporters and the like who are having a real Airing of Grievances right now and I'm like "if you knew this stuff you could have said something years ago."
December 12, 2025 at 1:19 PM
Yeah, my general rule is that if someone makes a big deal talking about how "I'm definitely different than everyone else here" I am pretty dubious especially if it isn't obvious early on that anything has changed. Also, how he handled DEI issues, for example really rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah, I thought we all sort of understood that the Regents were a bunch of political goobers who will sell out anyone to feel important. These people hired the last two presidents at Michigan, fergodssake. Their judgment can't possibly be underestimated.
December 12, 2025 at 12:49 PM
Honestly, punt him and the Regents into the Huron River and start anew.
December 12, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Good point. It's funny - that's the part (if true) that's way more damning than the lack of a security guard. Though I would assume the HR head wouldn't necessarily want to talk to the media about a firing like this. It's weird all around.
December 11, 2025 at 9:46 PM
My issue with the Regents is they're responsible for hiring Schlissel and Ono, so they probably shouldn't be left alone with hiring authority either.
December 11, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Yeah, I'm not particularly excited about that group of political animals getting another at-bat to try to not slam their fingers in the doorway again.
December 11, 2025 at 3:43 PM
Probably somewhere in the middle. Still, it will be really telling the timeline around this firing when it comes out.
December 11, 2025 at 2:26 PM
The optimist in me says he learned his lesson and feels more confident now to act appropriately. But more realistically it's that he didn't view a toxic hockey culture as a big deal while clear power abuse with a staffer is just a bright-line violation he couldn't ignore.
December 11, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Yeah, the Mel handling felt like a fireable offense but seemingly didn't get much traction with a lot of the fanbase. But the timing here seems appropriate and handled according to good process. Squaring those two events is really jarring for the same guy.
December 11, 2025 at 2:23 PM
Yeah, I'll admit I don't follow the deep message board threads like some but the matter-of-factness of "this guy is well-known for his extramarital social life" in a college town being news to me does highlight how information dispersal isn't omni-directional.
December 11, 2025 at 12:46 PM
It's the process involved after the fact that I'd judge an AD on, and Warde's track record is spotty and will hinge on the ultimate tick-tock around when and what he knew around Moore.
December 11, 2025 at 12:36 PM
Warde basicslly tried to bury the Mel Pearson report years ago and I'd have fired him for that, and if this is a similar pattern then he should be gone. But I can't imagine there's an AD in the world who'd sniff out Stallions being a weirdo or Moore cheating on his wife years prior.
