Next Wednesday's lecture on Brent Cross has been replaced by David Keen's talk on Amy Johnson, who flew from London to Australia in 1930, breaking all previous records

The Cypriot town of Morphou has been twinned with Barnet since 1995

The Greek Cypriots of the town fled in the wake of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the twinning is with the council in exile in Limassol

In 2008 Barnet named a new road in Mill Hill East after the town

Barnet and Ramat Gan (a Tel Aviv suburb) have been linked since 1976

The sculpture outside of Hendon town hall is called "Family of Man" by Itzhak Ofer and is a gift from Ramat Gan symbolising the friendship and fraternity between the two locales

The connection with Montclair in New Jersey is a special one and began during WW2 when 52 Finchley evacuees went to the town. The Americas sent back food and clothing parcel

The connection continued for many years and was finally formalised in the 1980s

The Paris suburb of Le Raincy is Barnet's second French twinning

Originally twinned with Finchley since at least the 1960s, the two suburbs hold photography competitions and wreaths are shared on Remembrance Sunday (as well as with Chaville)

Between Paris and Versailles is the town of Chaville.

Inherited from Friern Barnet who twinned in May 1959

Again they have a Rue Barnet and outside Finchley Central Station is Chaville Way

Stonegrove House, Edgware, in 1948, & the present.

The caption for the older image described the building as Stone Grove Manor House. Sadly it has been treated to unsympathetic alterations.

The second German twinning is with Siegen-Wittgenstein

Started with the Borough of Finchley in 1958, it was inherited by the Borough of Barnet and celebrated 60 years of friendship this year

Our late chair, Keith Dyall was also chairman of the Friends of Siegerland

At last, we can get to see what two decades of neglect have done to the interior of the Grade 2 listed Railway Hotel in Edgware .

Yesterday, I went along to a public presentation by Cavendish Consulting on behalf of the new owners. This is a Hendon Memories image from 1982 and a recent photo.

Mill Hill is home to one of Britain's very last glass eye makers

Jost Haas's work is highly valued by those who use them but his trade is considered "critically endangered" by the Heritage Crafts Association
