*waves dramatically* let me tell you about class theory

Beginning to mentally reframe myself as a "designer / maker". My short term goal is making jewelry as art and maybe a business, but I love dabbling in all sorts of disciplines and love making tools, and don't want to leave software entirely, so it's difficult to define exactly what I do...

Although I was only peripherally aware of them before I transitioned, I later met them over dinner on Train Jam and discovered they were awesome and delightful people, and I'm honored to have met them

I hand-carved a sleeping rat dreaming of cheese in wax, so I can cast it in silver bsky.app/profile/mhut...

Here's a sleeping rat dreaming of cheese that I hand-carved in wax at a figurative wax carving class with Kate Wolf in Portland, ME.

This is the first thing I've carved in wax that I'm genuinely excited to cast, and I'm seriously considering getting a mold made and selling pendants 😄

I sometimes use similar phrases when I'm giving a talk, or in long form writing. I feel like that's very different than using it in a response, as it's not intended as a callout - it's an explicit callback to remind or draw attention to connections between different parts of the work

I think there's a place for it as a call-out in a response when someone repeatedly and clearly hasn't cared to pay due attention, and in that context it's absolutely a passive-aggressive move and an escalation

I have wondered about ways to use my metalsmithing skills to make things other than jewelry... and @lackingceremony.bsky.social's keynote at @qgcon.bsky.social now has me thinking about making metal artifacts for TTRPGs and how they might contribute to gameplay 🤔

Things were better when computer was in room. Now everywhere is computer. This is bad. Computer should never have escaped room.

i don't want to hear your most boomer complaint. what's your most millennial complaint?

... is this a live action blaseball game? 🤔

Why yes, I have both social anxiety and a need for validation, why do you ask?

And maybe an option to anonymously replicate a random sampling back onto a central bluesky account

I kinda wanna create a cathartic social media app where the messages just disappear into the void without anyone ever seeing them

Slow but steady progress on the jeweler's bench... finished edge banding and sanding on all 14 drawers, but unfortunately I left my Osmo TopOil 3025 cap loose and it dried out so I can't finish them yet 😩

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

2nd honorable mention to Legion in Mass Effect 3

Honorary mention to that bit at the end of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Feel like a gameplay gimmick (and probably wouldn't work as well if it's not a surprise) but super effective regardless - this one made me cry too

At least they gave her decent boss music, I guess?

Guild Wars 2 episode killed a side character I liked for no good reason. I was a little upset, but fine. The next story episode made players switch perspective *for the first time ever* and play as the NPC who murdered her, and act it out ourselves. I was genuinely distraught and angry.

I would pay good money to be able to temporarily hide political posts from my social media feeds... would make compartmentalization much easier

Feels weird to think that the first pieces of jewelry I sell are likely to be castings when the thing that I most love about jewelry making is working in metal directly. But I love how this piece turned out, and casting scales so much better....

Many thanks to Kate for her fantastic feedback, suggesting the cheese-shaped bail, and generally being a super awesome person!
