Thanks to @publiclaw.bsky.social for publishing my article on decision making under the Prevent and Channel duties. So long in the writing that the Prevent Duty guidance and definition of extremism were updated and a review of Prevent was published, which didn't slow things down further at all.

Really important ECtHR decision this morning declaring the Dalton case inadmissible. This is a really important case on human rights and the legacy of the NI conflict:

I attended the Committee in May 2023 during my PhD, but this session will be broadcast live (which is midly terrifying..). The UN system needs buy-in from domestic stakeholders, so it's really exciting to see our work pay off with Parliament more regularly (& publicly) engaging with the UPR.

Later this month, I'll be giving evidence for the Joint Committee on Human Rights in Parliament on the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) with @dralicestorey.bsky.social and @jonyorke.bsky.social.

If this thread is anything to go by, it's been a disaster for Falkner & EHRC.

I’m watching parliament’s women and equalities committee grill Baroness Falkner and the EHRC so you don’t have to, follow along with this thread for a summary of what’s said

At last I am back to writing our open textbook on IHRL. Today it's UN treaty body reporting system. Special thanks to @michael-lane.bsky.social for sharing some great open source resources with me. If you have any open source IHRL resources to share please add them to docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I hope, as R2, you rejected a perfectly good manuscript and had a good time telling the author that they should have written a different paper.

The @ec.europa.eu fully supports the ICC and its officials.

The ICC holds perpetrators of the world’s gravest crimes to account and gives victims a voice.

It must be free to act without pressure.

We will always stand for global justice and the respect of international law.

Today, #ICC appeal chamber judges will decide whether the Confirmation of Charges hearing for Joseph #Kony - leader of the #LRA charged with #warcrimes and #crimesagainsthumanity in #Uganda - can go ahead in his absence.

#ICC: Joseph #Kony’s defence team filed an appeal against the decision to conduct a “confirmation of charges” hearing in his absence.

The decision on that appeal will be announced next Tuesday, 3 June, at 10:30 local time in #TheHague

How are [ #ICC] Judges meant to decide whether an in absentia proceeding should be held against... #Kony, but not... #Putin or... #Netanyahu?

Appeal against CoC hearings in absentia accuses the OTP, in an age of "unexecuted arrest warrants", of holding "mini-trials"

That sounds really interesting. Might be worth looking at Philip Alston's recent OA text: humanrightstextbook.org/digital-book.

Beyond that, on the UPR specifically, if you e-mail me I can send you a long list of OA articles. My OA book on the UPR will also be out next year.
