No moving goalposts, I assumed we were talking federal level politics this whole time because Democrats and Republicans at the local level are fairly indistinguishable. But my lived experience IS in a red state.

But Democrats and Republicans don't exist in vacuums. Republicans shoved the Overton window right and Democrats have to operate in that space. Perhaps the voting record has maintained its political direction. But the D party CLEARLY courts a fantasy centrist voter rather than the go to the left.

Does this graph not prove this person's point exactly? The R went more right but the D didn't go more left. The net result would be getting drug to the right.
