A wilderness adventurer, mountaineer, and navigator, I've explored places where nobody in recorded history had gone before—and nearly got killed over a half-dozen times in the process. https://michaelcooperadventurer.com.
My outdoors-adventure memoir Miscalculated Risks has been selected the Winner of the prestigious 2025 Literary Global Book Awards for Narrative Nonfiction. Last month, Miscalculated Risks was judged the Winner of the 2025 American Writing Awards for Best New (Debut) Nonfiction.

I’ve added a new montage to my adventure website, showing a hardcore backpack I did in the core of Zion National Park (Utah), far from the nearest trail. The video shows the start of a descent from the high country down to lower desert 2,000 vertical feet below. michaelcooperadventurer.com/deserts

I backpacked cross-country into the trail-less core of Zion National Park to stand on the edge of a sheer 2,000-foot cliff. Few people have ever made it to this remote place. Enjoy the 1-minute video on my adventure website: michaelcooperadventurer.com/deserts
