scarborough-rouge park just elected neethan shan - adding to a progressive wave of councillors in scarborough.

bus lanes were a key election issue.
the two runner-ups campaigned to rip out bus lanes. they lost.

lesson: don't mess with scarborough's bus lanes. suburban transit riders vote, too.

election polling. Neethan Shan - 5174 votes, 26.86%
Anu Sriskandarajah - 3374 votes, 17.52%
Shawn Allen - 2934 votes, 15.23%

My priorities for West Hill

1. Red Bus Lanes: These lanes on Kingston and Morningside have created traffic backups and frustrations for drivers. I will push to make these into carpool lanes open to cars during rush hour and on weekends, easing traffic congestion

So tonight the City of Surrey voted to impose "conditions" on TransLink as they proceed to 30% design on King George Blvd BRT, and they're ... REALLY GOOD?!?!?

Dedicated BRT lanes pretty much everywhere you would ask for them. My expectations low 🙃

McEvoy says that the attempted removal of council transp. remuneration is ableist as he can't drive, walk, or bike to council so he has to spend money on taxis.

Fontaine tries to offer apology. McEvoy says that council can't claim transp. expenses *because* there is a stipend.

Fontaine: brings up that some people cant afford to pay for parking spaces, so free street parking is a cost savings for people.

Campbell brings up the fact that residents do not own street space, and that it is public space and needs to be used in equitable and fair ways. Expresses that she wants future engagement to be clear on what needs to be done and what is up for discussion.

Nakagawa on Fontaine's motion, supports the idea and looks forward to seeing it come back from staff.

She strongly disagrees with the part about removing council's transportation allowance. Transportation for city purposes are part of the work and should be reimbursed to remain equitable.

Nakagawa amends to ensure none of Fontaine's motion goes into work plans before it comes back to council to assess associated costs and implications. Fontaine supports this as it's what he assumed would happen anyway.

- visitor permits remain affordable
- any new revenue from permit fees go toward local transp. improvements
- expand parking enforcement before implementing parking reductions
- make city hall parking paid and to remove council remuneration for trasportation (he said this, I dont see it though)

Fontaine brings an amendment to the Implications of Housing Legislation on Curbside Management report, all about parking in the city. Lots here being read out, holy smokes.

Nakagawa: has been thinking a lot about "where we build housing". Asks about city's Downtown Community Plan and how it was adopted 15 years ago. Asks about updates given how much the provincial TOA areas impact downtown New West.

Staff: plans will discuss things like parks, transportation ...

Staff: "make sure we're putting housing in the right places", references plan specific to Queensborough and its flood risks. References other things like housing design, tree policies, etc. Says the city pays close attention to granting programs.

This answer reassured Cllr Campbell.
