Kuwait's new emir took the oath, then accused the current govt and the NA of working together to harm the interests of the country. So the govt will change, and the recent bout of cooperation between the NA and the govt will end. Not clear how new govt will work with the NA after this criticism.

The emir must appoint a crown prince within one year, and his choice must be approved by the NA in a special session. The term used in the constitution is مبايعة, so it has a sense of "giving allegiance" rather than election. Though the emir's choice likely will be shaped by expected reaction of NA.

They've run out of brothers, so now it goes to the next generation. Probably Ahmad al-Nawwaf, Ahmad al-Mishaal, or maaaaybe Ahmad al-Fahad. The first has won support recently by cooperating with the NA. I think it stays in the Ahmad al-Jabir branch.
Kuwait at some point will have to move down a generation as power has passed from one brother to another, Saudi style, since 1977. The new Emir Mishaal follows his brothers Jabir (1977-2006), Sabah (2006-20), Nawaf (2020-23), with a brief nine-day interruption in 2006. Choice of crown prince is key.
Wanna see how political rivalries, oil wealth, corruption, and succession struggles play out in one of the world's last ten ruling monarchies? Watch Kuwait, as its Sabah dynasty picks a new Crown Prince following the passing of Emir Nawaf today. menasky polisky
