Theatre is odd; you can tell in the moment if your audience is amused, affected, entertained, intrigued. But you can't really know if they were provoked into action. I guess not all theatre makers are concerned with that outcome, but I am.

Second playtest of 1884, a show about the legacy of colonialism, today. It's strange to explore something which both has an enormous legacy and is still actively occurring. It's hard to treat the topic with the appropriate weight without risking harming audience members living with that reality.

There's something so dark about the fact its designed to be read as a young woman. The things they can have "her" do or show being done to her with no need for pesky things like intimacy co-ordinators or emotional support. An actress who will never go public about sexual harassment...

After a mere two days of rehearsal we did our first preview/playtest of 1884 today! It got absolutely WILD. I forgot how much I love making inmmersive interactive theatre, how exciting it is when an audience start to recognise their power in the space

A large hall set up with four tables around which sit small groups of audience members. The nearest audience member to the camera is wearing a tshirt that says "Decolonise" on the back. At the far end of the hall is a noticeboard, an actor speaking into a microphone next to a model of a radio station, and two actors sitting at smaller tables next to a model post office and a model town hall. I'm the postie, organising letters at my table!

Had a truly excellent time at last night’s @soulmuppet.co.uk and @moonshineadventure.bsky.social launch event for DOOMSPIRAL!

Saw good friends, and played an excellent game. If you’re a fan of Dark Souls or Elden Ring, then this TTRPG is for you!

Today, after five days of rehearsals, I'm performing in two workshop sharings of a full-length musical at Nottingham Playhouse!
It's been a truly liberating experience to work in a majority disabled space, exploring stories that matter to us. Wish us luck that our industry guests see the vision 🤞
