One was deported. When I had this job I found 3 people with out of date visas. With the other two it was only by a couple of days and immigration was understanding. The other hasn’t had a new visa for years though.

1998 was when I was an undergraduate like you did my PhD in philosophy in early 2000s at the University of Hull in Britain. I think it’s got a lot to do with behaviour & rules at universities. Emails were rare until 2001, but we did use ‘message boards’ & ‘intranet’ websites.
