A flibbertigibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!. Films, telly, bits of radio are my thing. Oh and London’s pubs, I’m often seen in the pub.

A combo of an angry as fuck Jaws 2 performance Roy Scheider and Sandra Bullock could liven this up.

My mouth was watering after reading Will’s piece and the wheel of fortune means I have time today to pop in on a lovely quiet afternoon to really appreciate the pub in all its glory.

Began watching this because it’s a Paul Greengrass film and he can handle a story. Starts off strongly in his typical style i.e. frenetic and stressful but then it becomes Bizarro Speed where the bus has to painfully manoeuvre at no more than 20mph while kids scream a lot.

Spent the day immersed in British crime from Brink’s-Mat in the 80s to the Murder Mile of the late 90s/2000s. Ellroy with a whiff of cockles and jerk.

Bloke in the pub yesterday just casually using nail clippers to trim his fingernails.

Did not know about that. Cracking tale. So that’s 3 different studios in Haringey then. Maybe more.

Thought this was a great piece! It did leave me fuming at the developers though. Have also shared where I can.

Maybe that’s why Dutch/Belgium places have receded? You simply cannot have a ‘proper’ night out if you’re wankered off 3 pints of Delirium Tremens and it’s not gone 6.23pm.

Maybe that’s the mark of a great USP, it’s the location before the location? No harm in taking money for being the funnel to somewhere better.

Keen to know. Seems to have been a retreat from lowlands themed places. Belgo’s gone, was excellent for Trappist fayre and the Dutch bar on Drury Lane is now a ‘London pub’ (it isn’t) again. Exmouth Arms used to do some good stuff.

Always found it a bizarre pub. A piece of Soho marooned on the wrong of the road. Shift it over 25/30ft and it might be great. I’ll ask myself ‘why haven’t I been in here for a while?’ The answer quickly presents itself.

Admittedly I’ve never actually read Jilly Cooper but this cover (and perhaps Rivals) feels as much a part of my childhood as a Sade album in the car with mum smoking fags with the window up, on a trip to Laura Ashley, Grandstand and Brian Walden boring on at Geoffrey Howe. 🫡

Brings your mates for a sit down in Walworth but remember to ask for the keys @deserterblog.bsky.social

Popped into The Charlie Chaplin, Walworth. Only (re)opened a few months ago after a name change it seems. £5 pints before 8pm which is lovely. No cask ale for the heads. Found it very pleasant for a couple on a Sunday afternoon.

Great interview/discussion by DiCaprio/PTA about One Battle… Reads like his amazing Boogie Nights commentary where he was pissed up with Wahlberg. Just a director & actor chewing the fat. Belies the false impression PTA is ‘art house’, Midnight Run is name checked ffs www.esquire.com/entertainmen...
What Does Leonardo DiCaprio Want Now?
How do you get the actor talking? Put him in a room with Paul Thomas Anderson. During hours of conversation, two era-defining men—on the record together for the first time—went deep. They cracked some...

Feel absolutely drained after watching this. Many things I loved about it not at least Sean Penn on staggeringly lunatic form, his second PTA collaboration where the direction appears to have been ‘you do you Sean’.
