BEHOLD. every year i grab as much citrus as i'm allowed from the fruit basket my aunt sends us and juice it all into what my brother has dubbed CHRISTMAS JUICE. it glows with concentrated christmas power, and let me tell you it is some real holy shit on new year's morning.

they dropped long rock jetties about every 1/4 mile to try to keep the beach in place. it's futile of course, but the rocks attract a ton of wildlife like these cockles. south carolina 2016
closeup photo of a cluster of cockles attached to big granite boulders on the beach. they're about half an inch wide. they're striped with black and gold in arcs, and deep ridges radiating from the hinge, and they shine iridecent where the sun hits them. it's out of the water but everything's wet from the crashing waves. green seaweed, barnacles, and a couple of tiny whelks can be seen nearby on the rocks as well.

no idea where the black sand comes from, or why it's laid down in a pattern. south carolina 2013
closeup photo of sand on the beach. it's taken at a flat angle so only a horizontal strip in the middle of the frame is in focus. the sand is mostly clear white but there are a good many black particles that have somehow by action of wind or waves been deposited in diagonal stripes across the beach. where the picture goes out of focus you can see the sand dissolve into a rainbow of lights.

this is my kind of beach: endless white sand, low waves and tide pools, no people. this isn't anything exotic and expensive, it's just south carolina. 2013

and i got this one from @holboldoart.bsky.social‬! it's haunting, it's so silent and cold. this is what i love about winter. the quiet, the dark, the transformation. i expect i'll live to see the last of the snow, outside of the highest latitudes and altitudes.

photo of two prints, one above the other. they appear to be watercolors, or maybe marker work. each is a picture of a fox, at the same time dead and decaying, and bursting with life, and the way they're lying they look almost like they're dancing. the fox in the top print looks mostly whole with orange fur intact, but you can see its ribs where its skin is gone, and springtime plant life is growing from the body in bright green and pink flowers. the fox in the bottom print is also mostly still covered with fur, but both its ribs and its skull are showing. it has fall foliage growing out all over. together the positions of the foxes in the two paintings sort of form a circle, spring-fall-death-life.

look at this badass anglerfish print i got from @phasemoth.bsky.social! in person it looks like it's about to thrash right out of the frame. i love the ocean more than anything, and i love the sort of heavy metal styling.

another old one. i did just recently, at long last, in spite of the goddamn tiktok kids buying everything in stock everywhere, get a new [old, refurb] camera, but i'm still learning how to drive it.
