I often think about that Futurama joke where the crew ends up in the year 5000000 and the highly advanced race of humans tells them to come back in 5 years for a time machine. Then when they come back the advanced race has been completely wiped out by a violent race called the "Dumblocks"

It's early for best of the year I suppose, but nothing I'm gonna read in the next few weeks is gonna match Debt by David Graeber. I'm still processing just how much this has reshaped and/or reinforced certain ideas I have around human economics. Important book

3 million Californians pulled the lever for Harris and either approve of slavery or couldn't be bothered to register an opinion. If we could all get on the same page about how to help poor people without exploiting them for their labor that would help. Or am I doing one of those nono purity tests?
