"the witch doesn't burn in this one" by Amanda Lovelace was published in 2018 as the 2nd installment of the "women are some kind of magic" series. When I saw this book in a used book store over the summer, I knew it was the perfect read for the "Read Poetry by a Sapphic Poet" challenge prompt.

The "Read More Queer Challenge" has really pushed me to find stories that I never would have picked up otherwise. Some, like this collection, are challenging to read, but present incredibly important stories.

And just like that, my year of reading the "A Tale of Mischief and Fuckery" collection has come to an end. These stories brought some much needed joy to a dumpster fire of a year. I loved picking up these novellas every month knowing that I was in for an entertaining and unhinged read!

I love going into a book blind and this story brought so much more than I anticipated!

The River Has Roots follows two sisters who are continuing the family tradition of singing to the magical willows on the banks of a river that connects a mystical realm to the mortal lands.

Now that I've caught up on November posts, I can share my recap! It was quite a month for reading and I have an even more ambitious goal for December (I'm on track as of now!)

The 7 - 10 Split by Karmen Lee is a different kind of sports romance. Ava and Grace were once best friends and fierce competitors when bowling, until they weren't. Neither really knows what ultimately ruined their friendship, just that it has been years since they have seen one another or spoken.

Both the "Read More Queer 2025 Challenge" and the "Sapphic Reading Challenge" had non-fiction spaces to fill so, after a little poking around, I settled on the history of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake.

I know this is a petty hill to die on, but it's the holiday season which means holiday cards are coming in the mail. (Important background: I have been married for almost 3 years and hyphenated my name.)

Every card addressed to "The [husband's LN]" pisses me off.

I AM NOT DEFINED BY HIM!

I'm still 8+ books behind in sharing 😅

I did not expect Dred and Connor as a couple, but I love them so much! Their story had me feeling so much for both of these characters. I just kept thinking "these poor sweet, broken bbs 🥹"

This was probably the slowest slow burn from this series, but the pay off was so worth it!

All the advent fics and drabbles are providing the tooth rotting fluff I needed ❄️🤭

The absolute chaos of this novella was perfect! I'm glad that the special game Sloan and Rowan play has grown into a family affair. It's a weird group activity, but that makes sense for the Kane brothers.

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

Once again, I judged a book by its cover and it led me to an amazing story! Grace was the quintessential burnt out over achiever trying to figure out what's next after earning her PhD, but not getting the job.

It was bittersweet picking up Scythe & Sparrow knowing that it was the final book of the series, but I was so excited for Fionn and Rose's story.

Their story takes place at the same time as books 1 and 2 before building on.

Leather & Lark is book 2 of the Ruinous Love trilogy and other than a (very important) flash back, it picks up right after book 1.

As the oldest brother, Lachlan has always done whatever is needed to care for his brothers and keep them safe.

Once again I fell behind on sharing my reads, but it's partially because of how good this series was!

From the first chapter, I fell in love with Sloan and Rowan. They were so morbid and witty at the same time that I was literally giggling at some of the most messed up things!

Another year, another depressing balloon day because my brain hates me

So excited to see one of my favorite bands tomorrow...so stressed over what to wear 😅

My sleep schedule is so fucked up 😴

Idk how to fix it, but I know I cannot stay up reading until 4am again tonight

I retract my statement about November being the month I stay on top of things...this month is a mess!
November 16, 2025 at 6:28 AM
Already kinda failing this, but only because the Ruinous Love series is SOOOOOO GOOD 💀
November is the month I will stay on top of my reading journal aka posting my dumb lil graphics

*side eyes book I already finished, but have not written about*

October was a mishmosh of seasonal reads and reading dictated by what came in from the library. Halloween never really ends for me, so more dark reads to come!

I never posted September's wrap up, so enjoy another post!
