👏 Indeed, giving 16-year-olds the vote is fraud unless we go further to make it a vote that counts, that represents their and all our views in parliament, that overcomes our broken politics #PRnow

Over 80% of Labour Party members and two-thirds of trade union memberships want to ditch First Past The Post for Fair Elections in which voters' votes all count equally. So what's holding the government back? Answer: Greed for outright power and hubris that they can win again! #PRnow

"I'd love to throw it in the bin."

At #LabourConference2025, Livvy from Young Make Votes Matter asked Labour members about their opinions on the First Past the Post voting system.

Here's what they had to say 👇

Thank you to everyone who came to our panel event at Labour Conference last evening. It was fantastic to see the room so packed, and the mood so inspired.

Could we have this now, please, rather than waiting for "Reform UK" to win a FPTP election with 33% of the vote and watching them ruin the country for five years?

Britain's First Past The Post makes a mockery of 'one person, one vote' because our votes are grotesquely unequal, giving us a parliament that misrepresents how we all voted. It's why our politics are broken. #DemocracyDay #PRnow

We wanted to mark this in the actual Market Cross location.

The suffragist Great Pilgrimage is a great example of different types of people coming together to effect positive democratic change.

We need to do the same now more than ever.

84% of Labour Party members want the government to end the two-child benefit limit.

In a country as wealthy as the UK, allowing child poverty to deepen is a political choice. Labour must choose differently.

‪The Commons is now in summer recess until September 1st.

Of the 271 divisions held so far this session, 128 would have changed result if seats matched votes. That is, ~47% of the time, opposition MPs represented more voters, but the government won anyway.
