Despite heroic efforts by a small cadre of people in the field, the vast majority of senior PIs in clinical psychology continue to be uninterested or hostile to OS practices.

It makes me think they just don't care, and it's really depressing.

New paper led by @drlynam.bsky.social on the need for more training in and engagement with open science practices in clinical psych programs. It has been difficult to make progress due to a variety of barriers, including students working in labs uninterested or hostile to these approaches.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Open science discussions that are largely hostile and condescending toward non-adopters will not motivate behavior change. Are we doing altruism, or antagonism?

Overdoses are preventable when we use — and fund — the tools that work.

The Overdose Decline
and why prevention works
Yale School of Public Health Overdose deaths are declining.
CDC provisional data shows a 24% drop in overdose deaths (Sept 2023–Sept 2024).* That’s 27,000+ lives saved in a single year.
Within this report, 45 states saw decreases in overdose deaths. Five states (Alaska, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Utah) still saw increases.

*Note: CDC’s numbers are early estimates based on the most recent available information. They may be updated as more death certificates and records are processed.

Progress is possible when we use tools that work:
Naloxone (Narcan®): Reverses opioid overdoses
Harm Reduction: Syringe services, fentanyl testing strips, and harm reduction centers help prevent overdoses and other health issues
Addressing Stigma: Stigma is a significant barrier to treatment
Medication-Assisted Treatment: Methadone and buprenorphine reduce risk of relapse & overdose
Yale School of Public Health
Sources: Yale Program in Addiction Medicine, Harm Reduction Journal

"Our son Alec passed away alone on his 26th birthday from the disease of addiction - ashamed, afraid, and without access to an overdose prevention center that could have saved his life. He had carefully placed Narcan by his side, but no one there to use it. Harm reduction saves lives. We must invest in these proven measures to give people like Alec another chance to live and recover."

Cutting Medicaid & Medicare isn’t bold. It’s cruel. Fewer people living w/ dignity, fewer lives saved, & more families left to suffer.

There is nothing “beautiful” about taking care away from the sick, the elderly, the poor. There is nothing strong about leaving people behind.

The moral of the story: The math ain't mathin'.

Trump's cuts to science spending will damage our economy, leave hundreds of thousands of people jobless, destroy the discovery pipeline, and most importantly, cost lives.

But we are fighting back.

Plagiarism, AI slop, nonexistent citations, erroneous claims from real citations.

If the science doesn’t fit the story you want to tell?

Just make it up. Dress up disinformation and conspiracy theories in the guise of science and academic research. Halloween comes early for the RFK team.

Did you know you can call your senators and house rep and ask for specific grants to be restored? You can ask for specific jobs to be restored. You can ask for data to be restored. You can ask for teams tracking food safety to be restored.

Do what you want with this info!
