In Seattle tonight and found that Portland’s Voodoo Donuts has invaded.

I’m thinking Portland should open Voodoo donuts and Salt and Straw ice cream shops in red states. Return the attacks with food.

WTF. I had seen the photo of the car hit by the ICE officers. But this is worse. They hit her car, then jump out, attack her and arrest her!

Much the way that people making decisions at universities don’t represent faculty, staff, or students as a whole.

Board members and presidents are making the decisions. Maybe in the best interest of the university, but probably not.

Just today, here's a story from the @chicago.suntimes.com -- not only are ICE/feds masking themselves constantly (and some local cops too, I've seen it), now they're driving around without license plates. And turning down the wokeness will turn up the racism and conspiracy theories. It’s a question of what associations the system learns from internet patterns.

US Government is not a reliable source of information. That seems to be part of what is leading to these decisions limiting calling out the guard and why grand juries aren’t returning indictments.

Judge Sara Ellis' opinion in IL v. Trump is an absolute banger:

The Court therefore must make a credibility assessment as to which version of the facts
should be believed. While the Court does not doubt that there have been acts of vandalism, civil
disobedience, and even assaults on federal agents, the Court cannot conclude that Defendants’
declarations are reliable. Two of Defendants’ declarations refer to arrests made on September 27,
2025 of individuals who were carrying weapons and assaulting federal agents. See Doc. 62-2 at
19; Doc. 62-4 at 5. But neither declaration discloses that federal grand juries have refused to
return an indictment against at least three of those individuals, which equates to a finding of a
lack of probable cause that any crime occurred. See United States v. Ray Collins and Jocelyne
Robledo, 25-cr-608, Doc. 26 (N.D. Ill. Oct. 7, 2025); United States v. Paul Ivery, 25-cr-609
(N.D. Ill.). In addition to demonstrating a potential lack of candor by these affiants, it also calls
into question their ability to accurately assess the facts. Similar declarations were provided by
these same individuals in Chicago Headline Club et. al. v. Noem, 25-cv-12173, Doc. 35-1, Doc.
35-9 (N.D. Ill.), a case which challenged the Constitutionality of ICE’s response to protestors at
the Broadview ICE Processing Center. In issuing its TRO against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem,
the court in that case found that the plaintiffs would likely be able to show that ICE’s actions
have violated protestors’ First Amendment right to be free from retaliation while engaged in
newsgathering, religious exercise, and protest, and Fourth Amendment rights to be free from
excessive force. Id. at Doc. 43. Although this Court was not asked to make any such finding, it
does note a troubling trend of Defendants’ declarants equating protests with riots and a lack of
appreciation for the wide spectrum that exists between citizens who are observing, questioning,

I appreciate that some judges are starting to call out the false claims in this administration’s filings.

This has been missing. Building a case on false claims should lead to losses. Admittedly, the Supreme Court conservative wing is fine with false info if it fits the arguments they want to make.

I’ve been a bike commuter most of my adult life.

Ebikes are getting a lot more people to bike commute. And while I still ride my acoustic road bike, I use my ebike to shop and meet friends out.

Ebikes open up more car replacement trips.

People are always doing some task is the starting point for my lab’s work on eyewitness awareness and inattentional blindness. Since people have attention focused on something, they may miss or only notice late a crime or accident.

Exchanges like this thread for many of us academics. Admittedly, we probably would have sent emails 15 years ago. The conversational aspect of these interactions is wonderful.

In order for the dumb things to lead to the administration failing and being voted out, people have to know about the dumb and harmful things.

You may see something here or in media you watch. But that doesn’t mean most people see that.

Mainstream media needs to do better.

1. They are not as dumb as you think in the areas that matter to them: grabbing power.

2. Being dumb is a feature, not a bug, of authoritarianism. Hiring based on loyalty does that.
