The Helpers of Honeyhollow started the night on a peaceful shopping expedition. I’m sure it’ll be a nice, quiet #DnD session with my 5 year old.

Question for the GMs, writers, and worldbuilders out there;

What's a fun little detail you've added into something typical that you feel makes it just a little bit more interesting?

It can be anything that is considered "normal" for your genre, but you've spiced up a bit.

For the #TTRPG DMs/GMs - what are the most useful bits of information on your side of the GM screen?

I’ve seen some people who have rules notes, initiative trackers, etc. What’s something you can’t live without on your screen?

Another thing about running a #DnD campaign for a five year old is that she’s not content with just one character. Our pool of PCs/DMPCs includes no less than…

1 Elf Bard
1 Elf Cleric
1 Dragonborn Rogue
1 Tiefling Sorcerer
1 Goliath Fighter

Needless to say, combat rounds are chaos

I didn’t need to have this knowledge. Now you can have it against your will, too.
For today's 'true but horrifying' fact:

You have tastebuds in your colon.
The Internet asks:
"Why is 'spicy' the only thing my [anus] can taste?"

Buckle up folks, because your entire colon is lined with taste buds, or at least a close facsimile.

In fact, we find taste receptors throughout your digestive system, but not wired to your brain's 'gustatory areas,' thank god.

You can create deep, rich #TTRPG settings with succinct descriptions and minimalist #worldbuilding. Come explore some ideas about simple worldbuilding that leads to complex living worlds that inspire play imaginations.

Crafting Minimalist Settings for Tabletop Roleplaying Games
Create Worlds That Spark Imagination Without Overwhelming Tabletop roleplaying games thrive on imagination. At their best, they whisk players away to vibrant, fantastical worlds brimming with possibilities. But not every game needs dense lore or intricate backstories. Sometimes, the most captiv

Hey #TTRPG creators, I have an odd question. Where do you like to host your free content to share out to people?

I know there are places like Drive Thru RPG where you can sell it, but I’m looking for somewhere I can just give it away.

A question I sometimes ask the kids in my ttrpg campaigns is: "If not for this, what would your character be doing?"

And the follow up: "But they are doing this instead, so how do they feel about that?"

And after they've been primed: "If not for this, what do you think the bbeg would be doing?"

I made my first complete #ttrpg map using @inkarnate.com for my daughter’s #DnD campaign!

Our party’s home base is the city of Honeyhollow, named for the regionally famous Honeyhollow Apiary and Meadery.

Never done this before, but I think it would be cool to kick off a #DnD campaign sort of like Reservoir Dogs:

Here’s a free character idea for your #DnD campaign:

A Kenku Bard that communicates via slide whistle noises

Bring a literal slide whistle to the game and play it rather than talking. Your DM and fellow players will love it!

Another free #DnD campaign idea for kids: the village library.

In the beginning, it’s home to a modest collection of books that characters may read. From these books, they could

1. Gain hints to solve a puzzle
2. Learn a secret about the BBEG
3. Gain inspiration on a relevant skill check

Etc.

For D&D, check out Little But Fierce by @dcbradshaw.com (it's a D&D rewrite made for kids):

And... I just reviewed a pre-made D&D starter here too that would be a great first adventure:

Random #DnD encounter idea for young kids:

While the party is enjoying a short rest, have a small child NPC come up to them and ask for 5GP to buy food for his/her family. If someone from the party does so, the child skips away happily and promises to pay them back later.

One thing I’m quickly learning about DMing #DnD for a kindergartener is that we aren’t playing RAW or RAI. We’re playing “Rules as Determined to Maintain Attention Span.” So…RADTMAS

Instead of an “adventuring party”, my 5 year old and I formed a “helper’s club” in our #DnD game. We go around the town helping people for gold. Gold, I’ve learned, is the biggest motivation for a young player.

I’ve officially begun my DM career running a game for my 5 year old. I’m happy to report that she’s…

1.) Already distrustful of random old women asking adventurers for aid
2.) Quick to look for diplomatic solutions to encounters rather than violence
3.) An absolutely chaotic gremlin
