Another couple of 12" #WeekendSingles. It's a shame the 12" mix of Monsters & Angels was not released at the time; I really like it.

A couple of cheeky 12" #WeekendSingles to try and squeeze in before lunch. Extended Riddle goes out to @jimmyviz.bsky.social

Good morning! This batch of #WeekendSingles is mainly brought to you by the letter B. It includes the indie version of Black's Wonderful Life, which I think is the first of three different recordings to be released on 45. Starting top left, playing both sides. Same deal for second picture.

Checking out Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 4 whilst trying to get my son's old phone to work better for me.

From the person who brought you walking into the stream because they thought they saw a lobster (died) and dropping it into the toilet after a wee (survived), comes finding the phone in the laundry. After a two hour wash. (TBC).

I'm going to say the 2nd Movement stood out quite a bit.
Let's see what no. 3 holds in store. On record 6, naturally.

No 12" mix at the time but this later revisit for the most part respects the original track. The first 40 seconds won't be for everyone but once the synth starts you're in for a treat - as long as you aren't the original drummer.

I picked this up some time back and never finished it. The top record suggests no. 13 was next in line. It feels like a good idea to late night play the them from the beginning. Perhaps one or two a night until I've heard them all. Starting about now. Of course, no. 1 on record 3! No. 2 on record 9.

Original mono only version. Plays a bit slower than the stereo re-recording.

I've just been reading about Kraftwerk remixes for Tour De France (not for the first time) and it may have brought on a bit of a headache.
January 6, 2026 at 11:05 AM
After the lovely packaging of the Kraftwerk 2009 remasters the Kraftwerk Remixes album package is underwhelming. No booklet, no artwork as such apart from the front of the sleeve. I get cold & functional if that was the template for the remastered series but this feels more home made in comparison.

Half an #AlbumAlmanac #WeekendSingles before I'm due to get dinner on. From eldest who may have been unaware of this until they were wrapping it up.

#AlbumAlmanac #WeekendSingles part 3 brings an album from my Dad which didn't touch his hands in the purchase or official handing over process. He was aware he gave it though!

I'm really liking the lineup for forthcoming Taskmaster S21.

#AlbumAlmanac branch of #WeekendSingles part 2.
January 4, 2026 at 3:23 PM
Good morning! Today's #AlbumAlmanac diversion from #WeekendSingles is this remixed version of "Made In Basing Street" by The Producers. This revisit is in my opinion far superior to the original mix, with better artwork too. Strangely divided across two sides, plus one track on side 3, then bonuses.

I love the movement of a fully automatic turntable and this one is fantastically over engineered. The action starts about 20 secs in. Not my channel.

Also, whilst I'm here the labels on eco vinyl pressings have that horrible throwback to styrene records. I hope the wear is much, much better.
Have got myself annoyed by reading reviews of albums where people talk about a vinyl album sounding analogue vs digital. Particularly on a record that sounded pretty bad whatever its sourcing was and from the era it came from it was very likely mixed to digital if not recorded that way. Grrr.

A small practical thing I've learned in 2025 is that tissue paper is great for getting the kindling going in a wood burner. However I don't think buying new shoes is the most economical way to source it.

Smart people of BlueSky, our house has some Euro cylinder locks on a couple of internal 35mm thick doors. We don't use the locks and I don't like the look of them. Is there a more elegant (yet still budget) solution than buying some cylinder lock covers and filing/sanding lock holes to fit them in?

Shep Pettibone remix in 7" form for True Faith. Love the mix but the edits losing the near rhyme at the end of the choruses is a deal breaker.
