A number of friends have asked why I don't use my photo as an avatar, or ever post photos of myself on social media. Well, if you saw this coming, you wouldn't have done so either.

Also, get rid of your goddamn social media apps. Use the web versions only.

That's cute. News organizations still think popular opinion means something in the U.S.

News flash: Trump, and his regime, will never leave power due to popular opinion or so-called "votes." They will only leave when forced out by (a) economic collapse and mass organized action, or (b) coup.

I can't count how many MoUs were signed by the governments of Georgia and Azerbaijan while I lived there. Great way to get media hits for nothing. But I can't recall any of them coming to any sort of tangible outcome.

I'll say it again: no statute of limitations for kidnapping in Minnesota. In re Neagle applies as soon as the Trump Regime is out of power.
just a reminder that we aren’t even seeing the worst of what is happening in Minneapolis from someone detailed at the Whipple Federal Building yesterday

Definitely an intent to harm, but only on the part of Ross. His circling the car filming, and "f'ing b*" yelled at her after the shots, are indicators of malicious intent. No other reason for him to walk in front of the car twice than to box *her* in or threaten her while others order her to leave.
Yeah as I said multiple times yesterday, I'm not going to opine on whether it was a lawful use of force; it's possible she did accidentally hit him on her attempt to peel off and leave. It's also possible she didn't; the videos are all inconclusive.

But what's EXTREMELY clear is no intent to kill.
The spin is already that this "proves" it was a ramming attempt and he was hit by the car, but all you can really say is that she accelerated slightly more than other videos suggested and that Ross fumbled his phone while shooting her. Suspect nobody's beliefs change.

It's obvious what the Feds are afraid of: State-level prosecution of everyone from the shooter all the way up the chain of command that provided shoot-to-kill instructions against resistors. If the shooter is identified, Ellison will seek his arrest, and he'll throw his superiors under the bus.

The presumption of regularity has been a bugaboo of mine for a long time. Rather than placing a high burden of proof ("well nigh irrefragable") upon those challenging officials' actions, officials should bear the minimal burden of demonstrating their reasonableness by preponderance.
New from me at Cato: In the National Guard case, Justice Alito wrote in dissent that "under the presumption of regularity, the Court must presume that the President properly arrived at his determination.” That raises a good question: does the behavior of the Executive still merit that presumption?
Do the Feds Still Merit the Court's Presumption of Regularity?
Courts have long accorded an enormous benefit to the federal government as litigant through the presumption of regularity. At what point does factual unreliability and lack of candor create a need to ...

Surprised there haven't been many state-level investigations into Fed. activity. No statute of limitations on homicide or kidnapping in Minnesota. The shooter in Minneapolis may forever be subject to State prosecution, with no Trump pardon available. www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cit...

This thread from @jelgerg.bsky.social is right on the money. What Trump did in Venezuela should really worry Georgians, not provide a reason to celebrate.
Georgians may celebrate Maduro’s removal from power by the US, a highly illegal act, as an example for what Trump can mean for them.

But given the US cited motivations the act spells bad omen, especially for countries like Georgia with Russia next door.

Here's what I mean. The US track record in similar situations is not great as to ultimate outcomes. And it gives pro-Kremlin voices in western countries a strong argument against punishing Russia for its own imperialism. bsky.app/profile/garc...
I don't think anyone wants Maduro or his regime to rule anything. But I'm seeing a lot of celebration by Georgians of what happened in Venezuela that is more knee-jerk and less of any sort of reflection on whether this bolsters Putin's claim to control Ukraine and Georgia.
Also, it’s no coincidence that people who actually live under dictatorships do root for the removal of dictators.

Someone should check court dockets in Toronto and Ottawa for indictments, and lookout for a Canadian flotilla off the coast of Delaware.
Does this make it acceptable for another country to come abduct Trump and Melania and indict them?

The fact that the officials didn't even consider that hit in #TEXvUofM a headshot proves that the NCAA couldn't care about the health of it's players. This is a money-making operation, not in any way an academic enterprise, pure and simple.

Ellison isnt trying to make money through journalism at CBS. Paramount makes money through its streaming platform and sports programming advertising (NFL, mostly).

Destroying CBS News is also profitable because it curries a large amount of favor with the ruling regime. Smart business move.
Will MAGA consumers replace the people lost when the media outlet shifts right? If only there were examples from which to learn.

Paul Harvey was the sort of guy who walks into McDonalds and complains that there are foreign words like "burrito" and "filet" on the menu, proving it's run by communists.
Here's Paul Harvey in Human Events, April 1964 ("I Wanna Hold Your Hand" era Beatles), complaining about the dangerous, rampant immorality on college campuses. The college kids he's complaining about were mostly white, and are today in their early 80s.

This is a violation of the Federal Records Act. DHS cannot use Signal to auto-destroy written communications regarding government actions. Trump's Chief Records Officer has said as much:

100% agree. Gavrilov's Night, and Gakharia's rubber bullets in the eyes of protestors, are the genesis of all continuing crackdowns. Bidzina realized he'd face little repercussions from such brutality, which facilitates today's actions.
This is a very important milestone for eventual restoration of justice in Georgia.

Actually, any and all crisis in Georgia stems from the June 2019 Gavrilov’s Night in terms of both timeline and consequentialism.

Ever since that brutal crackdown, it’s one thing leading to another. 1/2

Brett Kavanaugh would like to correct your statement.
Mpls Mayor Jacob Frey: "What we are seeing again & again is discrimination only to the extent that it applies to certain groups. So they're discriminating only as it applies to Latinos and Somalis ... you can't do that. You can't do that in Minneapolis. You can't do there anywhere in this country."

Yeah, but let's be honest. I've always agreed with Pompeo's requiring the Oxford Comma in the DOS Style Manual, and Times New Roman does look more professional (which, as diplomats, you should want). Let's not die on this hill.

But something more sinister is going on. Rubio's resurrection of a Roman font is part of an effort to enforce a MAGA aesthetic that echoes fascist propaganda efforts.
