The original rollers have an 8.5" core and a 5.5" urethane covering, and so there is 8.5" - 5.5" = 3.0" remaining for the left and right space where the trucks are placed. I used 3/8" x 1.5" pins because they were easier to get, and then made the rollers wider, but 3/8" x 2" pins would be better.

Great letterpress! Congrats on being the new owner. The rollers deteriorate quickly if not stored in a preservative like motor oil. I am restoring a Kelsey (Meriden, CT) letterpress with a 3x5 chase and will post if I can find rollers. Thanks for posting the photo, enjoy the classic press.
