One of the things that authoritarian movements are good at doing is furthering the conditions that alienate people from society and their communities. Crushing labor rights, destroying civil society, and eroding trust in institutions from local community orgs to the national government.

This year China will waive interest free loans for 33 African countries and likely to extend dead lines, add grace periods, and refinance other loans under BRI. Two years ago they forgave 23 loans for 17 African countries. Yet I still hear anti-China folks claiming “Chinese imperialism”. Disgraceful
