I think this is a GC rhetorical trick - to reframe identity as error, smuggle in the concept of delusion without ever actually proving it and it shifts discussion from how to help to who is allowed to define someone’s reality.

Affirming a trans identity recognises a person’s self-understanding without denying material reality, whereas affirming anorexia would require affirming a false belief about the body that directly sustains harm.

The point I thought I’d made was - relentlessly referring to a group in a negative way (as GCs do with trans people) denies them positive human qualities - which is dehumanising.

Yeah - I had this. Dad left when I was young, and although he was pretty good at the w/e stuff, I still wasn’t close. When he died I was more upset/angry about the fact I wasn’t upset more, than being upset with him dying.

Personally I take use this definition and I think the way GCs talk about trans people - solely as rapists, cheats, mentally ill etc - does indeed fit this description.
