5/ Clean Like Your Data Depends on It
Wipe down surfaces & tools with 10% bleach followed by 70% ethanol before & after experiments.

3/ Disposable Supplies FTW
Single-use consumables reduce the risk of lingering nucleic acids ruining your results.
April 4, 2025 at 1:03 AM
2/ Use Dedicated Equipment
Have separate pipettes, tubes, and reagents for each step to avoid mix-ups.

1/ Separate Work Areas
Keep pre-PCR (clean) and post-PCR (contaminated) workspaces apart to prevent cross-contamination.

Today, thanks to PCR technology, on-farm DNA testing allows you to confirm whether a chicken carries the Recessive White allele, ensuring you’re selecting the right birds for your flock.
April 1, 2025 at 12:22 PM
Recessive White (c allele, Tyrosinase Mutation)
🧬Found in breeds like White Plymouth Rocks
🧬A mutation in the TYR gene (makes an enzyme essential for melanin production) prevents pigment formation
🧬This mutation is recessive, meaning birds need two copies (c/c) to be white
April 1, 2025 at 12:22 PM
Not all white chickens are the same—white plumage can result from different genetic mutations. Understanding the specific genes your chickens carry allows for better flock selection and informed breeding decisions.

The Blue Egg Gene Chicken DNA Test is an in-house DNA test used to determine the number of copies of the oocyan allele in chickens. This test helps breeders identify chickens that lay blue eggs.
