Huge news! 🚀 The @genesinspace-12 experiment is launching soon on SpX-33 to test phage therapy in space. A big thank you to our incredible student winners and partners at Boeing, NEB, and ISS National Lab for making this possible!
So proud of the 5 amazing teams of high school students we met this week! Many congratulations to all of you!!
Congratulations to Nitya Johar (left), our 2025 Genes in Space Winner! A senior at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington, her investigation explores codon usage bias and has broad implications for space medicine. The project will launch to space in 2026. links.minipcr.com/2025Contest

The Meselson and Stahl experiment demonstrated in 1958 that DNA replicated semi-conservatively.

Meaning, each of the two strands of DNA serves as a template for a new copy to made of the complementary strand.

Foundational finding, elegant experimental design.

Fun DNA fact:
Five main nucleotide bases are A, G, C, T & U:

A - Adenine - 'ADEN' is Greek for "gland", found in pancreas
G - Guanine - found in bird GUANO
C - Cytosine - calf thymus, but named for CELLs
T - Thymine - Also isolated from calf THYMUS.
U - Uracil - isolated from URINE crystals.

Lambda DNA Restriction Digestion Analysis
Restriction enzymes cut DNA at specific sequences, producing fragments of varying lengths. Lambda DNA is a linear viral genome (~48,502 bp) often used as a model in molecular biology. Digestion with d...

No lab left behind
I think every lab should have one as a back up. A day of lost work is way more expensive than a single unit. It definitely saved my skin many many times.

My workhorse was occupied so I had to whip out Ye Olde @minipcr.bsky.social which remains an evergreen lifesaver in a pinch. Excellent design that won't die. Thanks, guys!
