Hello new biology followers!

I teach biology at a PUI and sometimes write papers that use genetics to understand topics in both conservation- and evolutionary-biology.

Most often with fish!

In high school, one unfortunate kid got caught with a joint. The principal kicked him out reassuring parents “we have caught the bad apple!”

But 79 of the 80 kids in my class did drugs. Adults were oblivious.

Epstein’s like that. We thought it was a few bad pervert apples. But it’s rank & file

I don't think there's ever been a scientific concept so widely misunderstood, and to such damaging effect, as heredity.
Vital point, often lost:

"As the team notes, the heritability of any trait isn’t a fixed number that is true for everyone, everywhere, anytime. Rather, it applies to only a specific population in a specific environment."
How long people live in countries such as Sweden is now roughly equally dependent on genes and environment 🧪

I suspect that's what many people assume anyway, but twin studies had suggested genes play a smaller role

If you, as a scientist, cannot be bothered to engage in the intellectual work of science, please quit your job and leave it to someone with skill and integrity.
“The idea is to put ChatGPT front and center inside software that scientists use to write up their work in much the same way that chatbots are now embedded into popular programming editors.

It’s vibe coding, but for science.”

Then you his the comment alerting me??
