Ah, I see (I think). I do think it's strange that we are bathed in it. Even gas pumps and the fancy new coffee machine at work have screens. I think you're right that we need a word other than consume b/c that word implies to me that we have some choice.

Work's fancy new coffee machine. I was hypnotized by the spotlight. But just above it there's an over bright touch screen showing a loop of coffee fields and other coffee lore.

Are you thinking 'tail wagging the dog'. Maybe it's overly romanticized, but I like to imagine that once upon a time people wrote (and broadcast) to share TRUTH*. Now it's pretty blatantly for clicks.

I'm intrigued by the Pandora's box idea. But to me it's more like radiation or a virus. We absorb it or become infected by it. You can't really live media free these days.

It's probably just a group of really river small otters at the beach, not a family of sea minks, but they just seem like a weird size. Smaller than otters tend to be, but bulkier than minks tend to be.
And their faces aren't as stubby/round as the otter photos I'm using as a refresher.

I agree that we do, prob not bad. I can think of two reasons. 1 is that given the cultural history around the topic, we feel defensive and think we must demonstrate the 'fact' of evolution by piling on historical observations. 2 Evol biologists are partly historians given the nature of our topic.

Anyone here currently doing invasive fish work in NC, particularly in central NC? I’ve got some people that caught an Amazon red-tailed catfish and have it alive in a tank. If I was still in that area, I’d be right over there, but alas, I’m not
