Old, retired & now deaf for the last six years. I spend my time doing far too much sports, when I am not working out I'm on the PC, or rather three PCs, Arch for everything. Debian for Home Assistant & Nextcloud and another one for playing with Truenas.
#Joplin works perfectly with Linux, Android and syncing to Nextcloud, (been doing it for years now)

I did that, My old NAS Synology couldn't be updated as no updates available. So I binned it & dusted of a even older gaming PC, and now have my own self hosted NAS & Server. It runs just fine, I wrote about here if useful for you

Upgrading My Main PCBeginning 2025, I upgraded my main PC running Arch Linux. The MB, CPU, GPU and Ram were all over ten years old. They still worked...

I like it the way it is now, on the PC you click on the image it zooms out, re click take you back to the post page. On the mobile version, nothing happens when you click on a image, might be nice to have the same zoom possibility ?

I have done exactly the same, Photos, Notes, Joplin all on my self hosted #Nextcloud on an old PC. Running Debian server, it takes work, it's gratifying to do & well worth the bother.
So well done 👍

A bit of self promo if I may : My path to self hosting.

Starting Linux and Dockers that's a Pain... 😱 If you have the time, just start with Linux to get used to it, as it's so different from Windows, then dockers a little later, docker is a real pain to get your head around it I find

I have one nvme for the install, and one a SSD for the data, as this is a 'play' installation. The data is in stripe format. I'm not worried about raid etc, until I decide if I will really use it. Can't get Nextcloud to work properly with data where I want it or running under Https, its a right pain

I've just installed Truenas Scale on an old PC that I wasn't using, installing is simple, but setting it up 😱 most of the online help is for older versions, and they are quite useful, so it's fun......and will take time. Like you I'm used to Linux as I haven't used windows in years

Yes I had that as well, probably due to spring time arriving, it certainly makes a nice change to have no errors #nextcloud
