Here's a late introduction to help find my people: I'm a grad student exploring AI's role in adult education and democracy at Athabasca University. I'm also a former political party Board Co-President, drum major, estate manager, and a big-picture thinker. #GovGeek #canpoli #academicsky

Greta Thunberg arrested for holding a sign opposing genocide.

When peaceful protest is a crime, democracy is in deep trouble.

Happening under a Labour Government.

It’s a bit too late, but a deeper understanding is finally emerging of the person Canadians hired to be Prime Minister. Basically a free market true believer, despite evidence that his previous efforts to use market forces to address climate change didn’t work. Worth a read.

Mark Carney’s journey from climate ‘visionary’ to pipeline promoter
Environmentalists believed the former Bank of Canada governor was a true believer in the need for the world to move away from fossil fuels. Then he became prime minister.

The first thing I do when I peer review is check the references. The last article I got I didn't even review because references blatantly showed use of AI. It saves time and embarrassment. 🙃
I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

My realistic 2025 wrapped:

I lost my mother, my father-in-law, and even my cat this year.
Depression was crippling.
The job hunt is ongoing (for the love of god pretend I'm a man and hire me.)
Politics - from local to global - were triggering and terrifying.

LOL. I imagine GPC's report (if they even bothered to do one) would sound quite similar: "It's everyone else's fault!"
Although, the Greens actively campaigned for the LPC with, "strategic voting"/"Never Poilievre" messaging. So, I guess GPC can (probably would) call that a win 🙃

"The overall verdict from campaign staff was that even significantly better decisions would not have changed the overall outcome."

Ahahahahahaha. I mean, might as well get a parting gift.
Michael Ma collected his Conservative Party secret Santa gift (an Amazon Fire Stick) boogied at the Conservative Christmas party, then crossed the floor and partied with the Liberals.

Regrettably iconic behaviour. Diva shit

I love when podcasts make me spiral 😂

These dinners definitely aren't garnering trust in politicians or media.

I may be too neurodivergent to understand these fake relationships because frankly, I don't see how you could see any interaction as anything other than transactional.
NEW: This week on The North State, journalists/industry leaders laughed and joked about the policies that have real world impact. @rachelgilmore.bsky.social joins me to explain how the Parliamentary Press Gallery Dinner shows damaging policies are just a big game to Canada’s media elite. #cdnpoli

Too true!
Poilievre's leadership is flailing so maybe the guy who seems to be dreaming about leading the Conservative Party can finally get his chance.

Mark Carney, go get 'em tiger!

Taylor Swift is an Uber capitalist. You can call it a "coordinated attack," and maybe it was, but she benefits because even people who don't normally listen to her music would stream part of this album just to hear what influencers are talking about.

You can tell how different Canada is from America in that if you go to Montreal, where the official language is French, cashiers or baristas or whatever will greet you with “Bonjour, hi!” whereas in America if anyone ever says “Hello, hola!” they are 100% ICE

Terribly stupid idea that will satisfy faux-populist urges to dunk on public servants while simultaneously making the lives of public servants and the service itself so much worse.

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. May continues "I'm the victim" tour rather than journalists hearing from Liberals (besides Guilbeault) on why they think this is what Canadians wanted.

Liberal MPs are whipped and May is an authoritarian leader who can say anything with 0 accountability.
MAY: "It's not just me who's wondering, 'How did this happen that a Prime Minister we thought was going to stand for certain things is standing for other things?'"

With limited time in federal politics (on the chief agent side) I speak from experience that, even on the intra-party level, politicians will ALWAYS attempt to move the goal posts. And, if there isn't significant pushback they will ALWAYS succeed at centralizing power. It's totally normalized.
It’s naked corruption:

“Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to grant cabinet ministers the power to exempt any individual or company from any federal law on the books — except for the Criminal Code — for up to six years. “ #cdnpoli

The number of people that have doubled down on "bUt woUlD yOu waNt PoiliEvRe?!" is astonishing.

1. You should always be able to critique policy and politicians.
2. I didn't want PP - it follows to not want the guy that does what PP would have and is just less of a blatant dick about it.
I don’t know how to explain to people that a Prime Minister who lied to everyone to pass his budget and then gave reporters a fake copy of the Budget implementation act is not a good guy apparently. But I can’t handle hearing how good of a PM he is anymore.
