Magpies chatter faster in response to long chatters, though total number of chatters, duration of the first response chatter, and the closest approach distance do not differ.

Together with Arnout Lindeman, @marcnaguib.bsky.social and Sjouke Kingma, we conducted experiments on territorial magpies with playbacks of long chatter calls, short chatter calls at the same rate, and short chatter calls at a high rate.
