Esp the last point--we need colleagues in biz & engineering & comp/data sci & med to advocate for us--they won't have the kinds of students they expect if the humanities & social sciences get gutted or remade into a narrow version of "classical liberal arts" pushed by some out there.
My remarks today at the U of Maryland Convocation, where I was honored and privileged and proud to be appointed Distinguished University Professor—among some truly amazing faculty and staff colleagues from across the entire campus.
