#VRChat, please review your custom input sanitization! For years, it's been heavy-handed to work around a rendering bug.

The relevant feedback thread was marked "complete" in 2018, where Tupper responded "This is intentional and is typical string sanitization."

Went to update my Poiyomi shaders for VRC Light Volumes support but updating each material by hand was too much effort, so I ended up making a new tool for it:

I've been having fun with project planning in an #ObsidianMD canvas. With community plugins, it replaced a few productivity tools in my workflow.

Original design documents for The Sims (2000) shared by Don Hopkins among other interesting links and insights (🧵1/2)

Subtle things to make your shaders better:

1) Anti-aliasing - Real life is not limited to pixels so unless you're specifically going for a pixelated style, you should be anti-aliasing everything!

A handy soft normals trick I learned from the source mapping ppl and also reminded of recently by @kronok.bsky.social who seems to be making an UE mapping addon

In blender press Ctrl+Shift+R to make extra edges and RMB>Smooth. Unlike bevel it wont mess up orthogonal geo and its also easier to undo
