Immigrant. Still calculating the damage I have caused.
Wondering why some people just don't have decency, but pretend they're nice.

If anything you exemplify what I criticise, the believe that every child can catch up easily. Do you have proof that less schooling has no impact on outcomes?
I'm from a country where kids repeat school years if they fall behind and have seen a friend find their feet again after a period of illness.

But how many children arrived in second year having skipped the first year of school AND have no English?
There should be more attention to every child's individual circumstances and not a general assumption that it will be fine. The boy is 10 months younger than my son. He could be a year below.

Hi didn't though, it took him around 2 years to say a single word in English and he's still behind academically. I'm sure trauma played a part, but I think skipping a year of schooling was also an issue.
I get this is an unusual case and I know most kids pick up English really quick.

Sorry, I keep on adding! Just thought I'd clarify it's not Glasgow but also central belt Scotland
December 12, 2025 at 2:48 PM
I think that makes sense. I studied linguistics a lifetime ago (and without gaining a degree) and I don't think many people in Scotland today speak pure Scots, but most also don't speak pure English. It does seem a mixture.
BTW, I think Scotland should do more to keep Scots alive not just Gaelic!

I think it was the 0 schooling making it a lot more tricky than it would have needed to be. We don't make English speakers skip P1 for a reason!
What I want to say is the kids need support when they're English isn't great and we should provide it. Especially if it's just applying common sense.
December 12, 2025 at 2:36 PM
I mean, I didn't understand why they put a Ukrainian boy with 0 English and 0 prior schooling (different start age) into my son's class at P2, because P1 would have been better (d/o/b would have been eligible for deferral starting P1)
He's lovely and his mum is great, but it was tricky for them

I didn't mean to agree that it's a problem. English isn't my first language and I raise my child bilingual.
I just wanted to clarify that the issue of fluency was raised as a separate data point in the data and I didn't know if that was discussed or of it was just mis-labelling completely.
December 12, 2025 at 2:24 PM
I got that. Just wanted to point out that it's a ridiculous explanation for the graph because it ignores half the story.
December 12, 2025 at 9:40 AM
There were two parts to the data, first language and fluent use of the language. I don't know if they used the correct numbers of course.

Haha, stopped clocks, so true!

For maternity care private hospitals offer a plush environment and attentive staff, but if things go wrong, they have to call an ambulance to take you to an NHS hospital for urgent care/C-section/ICU for the mother or the baby.
On the other hand, some NHS trusts have atrocious maternity care.

Whaaat? That's crazy, they count guns and cars into health expenditure??
December 12, 2025 at 8:49 AM
And I do feel sucked into a dystopian nightmare! I hate that it doesn't feel far away anymore as it did when it was in England.
I better get ready to do my bit to fight back!

The normal people at these protests outside the Cladhan have been dealt a rough hand in life and they have every right to be angry. It's just the wrong people they aim their anger at!
If they got what they wanted, closing the Cladhan, even no immigrants at all, it wouldn't improve their lives.

I don't hear anyone say that.

I don't think that's a clever policy though. You just incentivise higher earners to not pay (as much) into a pension fund but invest otherwise, maybe becoming landlords etc.
Pension funds will have less contributions coming in, making them even less sustainable than they already are.

Not all bad though, in the second letter to Timothy:
"Only the man who works on the land has the right to the first share of its produce."
I'd love for Kemi to preach that to her donours!

What about this quote
"Those who are under the yoke of slavery must regard their masters as worthy of full respect"
I read too much of these letters now, they are full of insanity.

Ironically they mention that women shouldn't have "braided hairstyles" and always should be quiet...
