how much did google pay to slip an entire magazine of corporate propaganda into this weekend's @irishtimes.com newspaper disguised as public communication about AI

Glad Science collected this data (though the results are entirely unsurprising). GenAI cannot accurately summarize scientific papers, sacrificing accuracy for simplicity.

And shame on publishers who are pushing genAI summaries on readers. Great way to accelerate an epistemic apocalypse.

Journal publishers *are* bundling your papers up in "data licensing agreements" for big tech companies to use for AI model training. Our publisher, T&F, got £75m from Microsoft for that last year alone.

The AI authorship issue is real. We've caught papers that looked OK but had references to works by the *journal editors* that *do not exist*. Like, don't send us papers citing papers we know we didn't write, right?

The copyright of academic books and articles generally belongs to the publisher, not to the author. If one of your books or articles is in LibGen, it is the publishing house that will get any damages, not you. You may get additional royalties, but they would be a tiny percentage of the damages.
