Industrialization is also the reason why we have the labor rights and unions that we do. Tech bros preach a very linear and uncomplicated version of progress. When really, the abuses of the first industrialization led to reforms later on, albeit after the issue was too blatant to ignore.

I’m here for the art. Never disappointed. The talent around here is incredible.

Anyway, I also agree with Ed about the strain of self-defeating liberal doomerism. That’s literally the attitude despots like Trump cultivate. If you expect the worst, you will always get the worst. Trump is not all-powerful, and by making corruption so apparent, he is hurting himself in the end.

Trump reveals the corruption, abuses, and instabilities already present in the system, bc he’s so blatant. He takes advantage of precedents set by past presidents. Frankly, I’m afraid of the precedents he sets for future abuses of power.

Agencies like the CIA, the FBI, and the ATF were already used to circumvent law and massively funded—ICE is one in a long line, and it’s the one the administration is currently relying on.

Yeah, I agree. Trump is not an anomaly. EOs have long been used to give the president unilateral power, including power to marginalize people and violate rights. Japanese American internment occurred bc of an EO signed by FDR. The executive branch has long been too powerful.

Creative work creates billions of dollars of value. It is the backbone of massive and popular franchises, among many other industries. Starving artist should not even be a thing based purely on the revenue creative work generates.

Skilled artists do not fall from the sky. Like any other craft, it takes an incredible amount of time and resources—and often formal education and institutional knowledge—to reach a professional level.

I agree, but the fact this is not self-evident indicates that art and creative work is a marginalized class of labor. No other profession, from doctors, to contractors, to programmers, have to justify being paid for their work.

Omg you’re so sweet. I needed a pick me up today. Thank you!

I make potato soup in the crockpot! Honestly, it comes out more like mashed potatoes, but it’s good. I’m the #1 potato soup fan.
