Writing about civics and government; making things; dad & husband. Working with my brother on a documentary about American teachers. Yes, I did write all those Crashcourse history videos for John Green.
Thanks. I used to be.

University students aren't dumb and they aren't lazy. They understand that what they are being asked to do at the price they are paying probably isn't worth it for a credential that is hardly a guarantee of a decent job or life.

I still cannot believe that her parents didn't name her Aphra. It was right there!

She works for the Trump administration so it looks like nominative determinism wins again.

I used to teach with it every year, but now I don't think I could because of the language. Even though it was produced by Black Americans and most of the participants are Black, it would be hard to show a film with so many uses of the n-word today. I wish there was a better way to talk about this.

I would be very surprised if Prince took Trump's call. (especially in 2019 when he had been dead 3 years)

Simultaneously praise for Terri Sewell and shade for every other AL lawmaker, especially Coach Tubs.

Someone is setting him up to be the fall guy. I wonder why.

And the mega-companies are part of the reason the media industry is suffering right now, to boot. Why is A24 kicking ass? Partly because it takes risks. I'm a casual Star Trek lover and used to be a comic book nerd, but there's too much Trek and Marvel and Star Wars for most of it to be good.

Yeah, most of what they seem to be putting out is dogshit.

How much energy does each of these Grok games use?

Based on the Trump administration's performance, "Lawyer" should be at the top of that list.

Single handedly bringing back the original slang meaning of "based."

Vegas, I think.

Any business that hires someone who openly claims to want to destroy that business deserves to be destroyed. I would dump shares of Paramount/Skydance (PSKY) right away, and if I were WB I'd look for another buyer.

I'm sure these are not the kind of guys who read to the end.

Getting rid of those filibusters I can get behind. This is what happens when you don't teach kids about William Walker.

He and his defenders will claim "freedom of speech," without reckoning that credible threats are not protected speech, and that these words, coming from a person claiming to be the highest law enforcement officer in the land, are definitely a high order threat.

This is certain to backfire when DJT allows anyone who owns one of "his" guns to bring it into his events.

He most definitely does, though.

Someone told these goons about William Walker and they thought, "Hey, cool idea."

Sinners is a masterpiece. A vampire-thriller/allegory about race in America/musical! One Battle is fine and deserves praise for its performances but IMHO, the HBO series of Watchmen did it better.
