I get why Dems picked this fight, but the biggest issue in US politics is that voters simply have never actually had to face the costs of GOP bad governance and now we're going to bail the GOP out through the midterms.

If i'd take a guess is that the federal nature of gov and the very dispersal of the urban/pol-power centers hampers any such protest ability, or even if you gather the people, the federal system can absorb them and the act of governance is not hindered as it would say if you blocked Sofia/Warsaw

Of course the "Euro model" has its faults in that it is rarely if ever truly capable of channeling any of it into concrete legislation, but by god it works well for its defensive reactive purpose and you could use that now

Those have no union or "community" org structures, if anything as a Euro i'd say US is overly fetishizing and worshiping of such things. You can easily run mass movements of thoroughly atomized individuals. The real critique and question is why are the middle classes so inert now

Nobody has strikes anymore. All union protests in Europe never achieve anything politically. The most succesfull of protests are "defensive" ones in reaction to overreach, exactly what happens in US now, which are almost entirely composed of those of the urban middle class

The thing about the argument on the "GCC" model is the counter-intuitive stuff western proponents, most at least, is the combination of the bureaucracy/firms functioning as de facto welfare model + the mistreatment exists to facilitate very large numbers of immigrants. Its really a Helot system
